25.01.2022 October shearing

24.01.2022 FOR SALE: 2 male pups, 9 weeks old and ready to go. DOB: 5/7/2016 Mother: Jaydean Harley (Avenpart Gul x Pushemup Pearl), very easy working young paddocky-type bitch, reads her stock well with good mob sense and cover, a strong presence to be handy in the yards. This is her first joining.... Sire: Jendara Boss II (Marabou Jimmy x Jendara Jazz), big athletic black and tan dog, genuine all rounder with a strong back and bark and a good cast, loves handling big mobs. Has been successful in trials, winning a District Yard Dog Championship, and he has a strong track record of breeding consistent pups to a number of bitches. Currently owned and worked by Doug Coombes at Hay. Pups have been well socialised, vaccinated, vet checked, wormed and will be registered. $300 Ph: 02 6967 8105 or 0437 503 753 Cheers

23.01.2022 Rossi & Piper packing the last of 2,000 weaners up to the draft on a pretty hot day. Currently have pups available from Rossi x Piper, should grow out to be very good station yard dogs, pics and info will be up shortly

23.01.2022 The newest addition! Karmala Pearl (Karmala Wills x Karmala Poppy), 10 weeks old. Was really looking for good bush mustering type with old Scanlon influence, looking forward to getting her going

23.01.2022 Work that out pups!

23.01.2022 **SOLD** Rossi x Piper kelpie pups, 11 weeks old Energetic, friendly pups... Details in comments

22.01.2022 Just on moving cows & calves - shifting a mob this morning off some flood-out country. Again, the point here is giving the cattle the time to make the decision to move. These older girls were bought in and have never really settled to the dogs, too much pressure and they'll take them on all day. This also doubles as the start of imprinting the calves which will be weaned shortly. It takes a bit of extra time but calmer cattle win out every day of the week. The dogs are Zuk and Harley

21.01.2022 Piper’s first day back after having her first litter of pups, the last pen of processing for shearing you might be able to pick the excitement in my voice lol nice easy bitch to work with

20.01.2022 The up and comer’s... Topeka Piper, S-Bred Minzy and Karmala Pearl, 8, 12 & 12mths old

20.01.2022 The new addition! Hawkesbury Tally, first time out @ 14 weeks old

19.01.2022 Hey guys I’m not into cross-promoting pages so I won’t do this much, but if anyone is a fan of Bush Poetry!! We have published a book of Bush Poetry called ‘Back Block Bards’, raising money for the Dementia Australia Research Foundation. It’s being featured on this Monday’s Backroads program on the ABC, we’ve so far donated $40,000 to the DARF and going strong so if you’d like to get involved, jump onto our ‘Back Block Bards’ page! Apologies have been a little bit quiet on the dog front, have got some nice young dogs coming through into the crew going from strength to strength!

18.01.2022 New kennel setup at home, 7 kennels came up pretty well

11.01.2022 First time mum Jaydean Harley had her pups on Monday night, 5 dogs and 1 bitch, sired by Jendara Boss II

10.01.2022 We bought some cows from up the river, and walked them home 40km across 2 days. They were a bit flighty and stirry to handle, particularly towards the dogs, they would leave the mob and take on the dogs at every opportunity. But after a few of k's of block and hold they settled and became a different mob to handle. The dogs are pretty buggered here by the last gate as they'd done a fair bit of heavy lifting and absorbed a lot of pressure. Running with Zuk (yellow) is Harley, 18mth sheepdog bitch, lacking some strength on the head but reads her stock well, good cover and enough presence to move her stock without overworking. For her third look at cattle she'll grow in confidence.

10.01.2022 Winning with weaners. Tough season means a tough start with plenty of growing to do, on a warm day no-one waits for the trough to be cleaned

09.01.2022 Discipline starts at feed time. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn’t extend any further!

09.01.2022 Quality bonding time vs built-up frustration

08.01.2022 Merry Christmas all! 2018 has been fairly quiet for posts on the page, but certainly hasn’t been quiet for the dogs and stockwork as the season continues to tighten. During the year alongside the dogs, we welcomed our first child into our family, and have also been working on the Back Block Bards campaign, a book of bush poetry with all sales and proceeds being donated to the Dementia Australia Research Foundation. If you haven’t seen it already, please feel free to check it... out at the ‘Back Block Bards’ Facebook page, or: www.backblockbards.org.au Please have a safe festive season and wishing everyone a prosperous and wetter 2019! Happy Hounding! Cheers Allan & Jenna

08.01.2022 Ok so this isn’t strictly dog related, but better stock handling makes everyone’s lives easier and little adjustments can go a long way. We have had real trouble loading Rangeland goats out of this trap in the past, it’s a rough setup but it gets the job done although you know you’re in for a tough time with goats taking on the panels, people, each other and anything else they can line up to get back to their mates behind them. Or just to go anywhere other than on the truck. ...After suggestion from a couple of mates, we strung some hessian around the forcing pen to block out the daylight and what they could see, and they simply flowed around the corner and up onto the truck with absolutely no fuss at all. Not reinventing the wheel at all but in heat like this, little adjustments can go a long way

07.01.2022 A couple of lines of cattle bought in recently, being mustered for tagging, with Zuk and Swift. The video is in a couple of sections, first pickup, driving the mob, bit of block and hold at a gate, and at the end holding the mob up to the yards before releasing them into a holding paddock. When we first took these cattle, apply any sort of pressure and you wouldn't see them for the cloud of dust. Now they're quiet to handle, responsive and happy to be held, reducing stress levels for all involved, through a bit of patient dog-work all done in the paddock.

06.01.2022 FULL BOAR 'Swift' - Lot 6. at the Jerilderie Working Dog Auction, Sunday 28th February. Very handy station yard bitch, get plenty of work done with her, works sheds, saleyards, and works cattle and goats. Can use her in the paddock but she works close to her stock. Registered, vacc'd, wormed and vet checked. Sire is Capree Zak, dam is S/Bred Kelvin King Smudge. For any other info or questions 0437 503 753... There's a great lineup of quality dogs for the auction, for the full catalogue head to www.workingdogauction.com.au, and get to the Jerilderie Showgrounds on Sunday Feb 28. Cheers

05.01.2022 Spot the intruder!! (Better with volume up)

05.01.2022 Couple of the Rossi x Piper pups getting their first look at about 11 weeks old Early signs are promising taking some ground off their stock with glimpses of calmness, strength and cover, really excited to see how these pups grow out

02.01.2022 Perspective - A dog's-eye view of 800 ewes 40m ahead

01.01.2022 A small wing of dry ewes had got caught behind the creek when it came through, this is Harley and Shiner working them up and across the bridge. The bridge is by no means impossible but getting stock, particularly sheep full of green feed, across can be fiddly, they'll tend to try to break back or across the face. I'm really starting to enjoy working Harley (Jaydean Harley, working closest throughout the video and at the bridge), at 18 months old she has maturity in her outside work with a real presence on her stock
