11.01.2022 LETTUCE!! Home gardeners will understand how different homegrown lettuce is compared to store bought... it actually has FLAVOUR! I love growing lettuce and there are so many beautiful heirloom varieties with their own unique flavours... buttery, sweet, crunchy, tangy... Not typically thought of as a winter green but the seasons have been a lil different lately and we have a glut of lettuce at full circle farm. This has made me get a bit creative with using lettuce in winter m...eals. My hot tips for using lettuce in winter.... 1. In many cultures lettuce is cooked into different soups and stews... Ive been throwing it in right at the end of soups, stews, laksas and curries and it adds a lovely freshness to a hearty winter meal. 2. Winter salads - Ive been making lots of side salads with meals like lasagna, frittata, shepherds pie, moussaka ... great way to add freshness and extra nutrition! 3. Using lettuce leaves as wraps... the classic san choy bow, even tacos are great with lettuce leaves instead of taco shells! I even tried some rice paper rolls with lettuce leaves instead of rice paper. So many options and so much health!
