24.01.2022 The chaos and the calm. So often new parents receive conflicting advice by well meaning healthcare workers, family and friends. It’s confusing and overwhelming and can create chaos in the mind. Tuning into informed and supportive people who’s contributions resonate with you and your baby is key... and so is letting go of all the other noise. ... Slowly, slowly, bit by bit, there is a calmness the comes from deep within the chaos of conflicting information. It’s the intuition to trust your own gut instincts. To trust that you know your baby better than anyone else and you are their expert. Once you find that trust, hold onto it, as it will be your guiding light for the journey ahead. 23.01.2022 Last day of World Breastfeeding Week 2020. I’ll wrap it up with this beautiful image shared by an incredible Full Circle mumma. I love how many mothers I see so instinctively hold onto their babies hands when they are breastfeeding. Did you know that a gentle hand massage can help your baby to keep suckling at the breast? It’s funny how sometimes our instincts can lead us to do exactly what’s needed. ... This mum sent me a little note (next image) to let me know she’s still going strong on her breastfeeding journey - 6 months in! Here’s hoping all you mummas I’ve had the privilege of supporting are celebrating your unique and very special breastfeeding journey - no matter what the outcome. You’re all amazing! #happyworldbreastfeedingweek2020 #celebrateyourjourney #thatsawrap

23.01.2022 The look of a new mumma who (after 5 long weeks of breastfeeding issues and significant nipple damage) has independently latched her baby girl and is having a comfortable breastfeed! These moments matter. These moments are worth celebrating. This is the face of a mother that is proud of herself... and my goodness so she should be! ... #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity #thesemomentsmatter #empowermentthroughsupport

The core purpose of Full Circle is to bring authentic care and holistic support to each unique family unit, guiding them through their own journey and empowering them to reach their breastfeeding goals. Full Circle is founded by Bekki Cavallaro, a private practice, medicare eligible midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. ...Bekki has practiced as a midwife for over 14 years in Australia and the UK, across clinical midwifery care and womens’ health research. 16.01.2022 Full Circle Midwifery and Lactation Support is taking a temporary pause to make time and space for another baby... Literally. Lactation Consultant & Midwife Bekki is in full bloom and practicing as she preaches: - Taking some time to slow down and connect with her baby. - Honoring herself as a mother. ... - Preparing for the postnatal journey ahead. In a society which has a tendency to glorify business, it can be a controversial and a somewhat rebellious act to pause... slow down... and fully be in the moment. Recognising and respecting that ‘nature does not rush and yet all is accomplished’, alongside motherhood being a mammoth task and deserving of our full attention, can bring many benefits in the postpartum chapter. For those interested in more information around preparing for a positive postnatal chapter or perhaps how to best support a family welcoming a new baby, this is a fantastic podcast by @themidwivescauldron. https://podcasts.apple.com//the-midwives-cau/id1523178579 Stay tuned as Full Circle will be taking bookings again from the 1st of June 2021. For all enquiries please email: [email protected] or send a message through our website: www.fullcirclemls.com We look forward to updating our Full Circle community with some cute news in the coming weeks. #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

16.01.2022 We all have our own version of success and sometimes (just like in birth) we face unforeseen challenges in the postnatal period that can change our original expectations and goals. Breastfeeding can be challenging for many mothers and babies. Many things can impact and influence a baby’s capacity to breastfeed. For example, babies who have instrumental births sometimes experience a temporary tender head after birth. This in turn can sometimes lead to a restricted latch and s...lightly guarded sucking when initially coming to the breast, which can have a ripple effect on the mother’s milk supply. So often this is a temporary challenge that takes time, support and persistence to turn around. However, nothing is cookie cut with birth, breastfeeding and babies. When challenges arise it requires bespoke, expert advise. Sometimes even with expert advice and support we don’t get the outcome we originally aimed for. Sometimes the goal posts inevitably shift. When working with a mother-baby dyad there is much more than ‘exclusively breastfeeding’ as a goal or potential measure of ‘success’. Ideally what we are aiming for is a positive experience for mother and baby while receiving all nutritional, physical, sensory and emotional needs. This version of a positive experience is influenced by the individual mother and the individual baby. They both get a say. Letting go of preconceived ideas and ideals can be challenging and can come with understandable grief - just like when a birth experience does not go ‘to plan’. However, surrendering to the moment, surrendering to what is out of our control and finding the juicy goodness in listening and honoring the communication going on between a mother and baby also has incredible lifelong benefits. There is so much ‘success’ in simply providing a baby deep love and security, providing responsive care and a willingness to trust and accept what a baby is communicating. Sometimes that may mean we shift the goal posts to accommodate their communicated needs. Sometimes that means we grieve our expectations vs realities. However, sometimes it means we celebrate a newfound ‘success’, an unexpected one, based on connection, love and acceptance. The beautiful mother baby dyad in this photo is an example of celebrating a different version of success. Although exclusively breastfeeding was an original goal and despite ALL incredible efforts by this incredible mum.... she in time accepted and trusted what her child was communicating with her, a different goal, a middle ground between them. Their bond is just as close. Their love just as deep. The communication, trust and security between them will benefit them life long. This is success. It may not be what this mother originally expected, but it sure does look happy. Beautiful photo of a beautiful Full Circle mother and baby, shared with consent. #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity #trustthejourney

15.01.2022 I see you. Three simple words. No explanations required. We all have a story.... We are all doing our best. Sometimes it’s hard to feel seen when what you portray to the world is perhaps a little more shiny than what is going on behind the scenes. Sometimes our story feels a little too heavy to share, so you carry the weight of it on your own, trying not to ‘trouble’ others with your own troubles. Wherever you’re at, whatever you’ve been carrying, it often can become a little harder to hide after having a baby, and it starts to seep out the cracks of tiredness and defeat. Here at Full Circle, we feel privileged to share that vulnerable and raw space with you. We understand that there is no faster path to healing than knowing all feelings are safe to be felt and finding your own way through them. We see you. We are here to support you. You don’t need to be shiny. You can be real while you heal. #keepitreal #weallhaveastory #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

13.01.2022 We all have a story... In honor of World Breastfeeding Week 2020, and to not just normalise breastfeeding, but to normalise the need for more expert breastfeeding support, I want to share my own (most recent child) breastfeeding story. My own breastfeeding journey has been as complex and challenging as many mothers I have had the privilege of supporting as an IBCLC and midwife. ...Continue reading

13.01.2022 When Full Circle comes full circle... This little cutie is coming back to Full Circle next week, not for breastfeeding challenges (that mammoth hurdle has been jumped a while ago now), but rather a return to work breastfeeding plan, as mum’s maternity leave is coming to an end. What a honor it is to support families on a journey that requires such a delicate balance of patience, persistence and presence. ... Our postnatal stories are just as powerful and important to share as our birth stories - thank you @normashpotatoea for your honest words about your unique journey (written below)... This is our baby girl Paige. We first came to see Bekki when Paige was about 5 weeks old. Up until that point, we had tried, since birth, to breastfeed Paige but had consistently failed. We had difficulty latching and I was suffering from acute nipple pain - to the point I dreaded taking a shower because even the sensation of water was painful for me. I was pumping every 2 hours, I tried power pumping, taking herbal supplements and eating everything and anything that would boost my supply but despite all my efforts, Paige was still getting the majority of her calories from formula bottles. I was exhausted and was growing increasingly depressed as I felt disconnected from my baby, that I was missing out on establishing a bond with her because instead of feeding her and holding her, I was busy pumping. I did not want to admit it but I was also secretly dreading the pumping and the feeding because it had become so painful - breastfeeding was not at all natural or something that came easy to me and I was devastated. I am so glad that we found Bekki. With her encouragement, support and guidance I met and exceeded any and all breastfeeding goals that I had. A little over a month later and I was able to exclusively breastfeed Paige. Bekki never gave up even when I was ready to, and gave me the tools, the skills and the confidence that I needed to help get me on the path of breastfeeding. Paige is now 24 weeks old and continues to thrive. It was a massive challenge but I am so glad we got here in the end. #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

10.01.2022 So who needs a little reminder as to why breastfeeding and breastmilk so just so damn magical on this windy Saturday night? So...Breastmilk protects your baby as it grows. The composition of breastmilk and nutrients, including macronutrients and immune factors concentrations change according to the age and development of your baby. Therefore, your body is constantly reading your baby and providing the perfect food through their breastfeeding journey - no ...kidding! The magic potion made by mothers is a living fluid. This magic-milk seals your newborn’s gut against harmful bacteria, viruses and allergens and can change in composition depending on whether your baby is hungry, thirsty, or going through a growth spurt. Oh and the list of benefits go on and on... This is just the tip of the nip. For those incredible mummas exclusively pumping or mixed feeding; know that your baby will still receive incredible immune factors from your milk and by kissing your baby (which usually accidentally happens a zillion times a day), you will ingest bacteria and pathogens from their skin so you will make antibodies against these too. If you are mixed feeding, even small amounts of breastmilk/ breastfeeding are helpful in boosting your baby’s immunity. Studies have shown that just one teaspoon of breastmilk contains over 3 MILLION germ-killing cells! So know that every little bit counts and you are doing incredible things making that magical milk for your baby. 09.01.2022 Such an incredible song and so beautifully performed with her daughter. The lyrics to Alanis Morissette's newest song, "Ablaze", pulled at my heart strings. "And this cord is unbreakable... This pilot light is there in your pocket And this bond, beyond unshakeable Even if we all forgot, all at the same time If we forget at the same time To my boy, my precious, gentle warrior To your sweetness and your strength in exploring May this bond stay with you through all your days My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze To my girl, all your innocence and fire When you reach out, I am here hell or high water This nest is never going away My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze"

09.01.2022 An excellent resource highlighting the fact that all babies are born different and some of the reassuring ways to recognise that your unique baby is getting their unique milk needs met.

09.01.2022 Happiest Father’s Day to all the incredible fathers out there. Today we celebrate the awesome tribe of hands-on dads we have the absolute privilege of seeing in action here at Full Circle. We see you, we see what you do, we see your care, compassion and commitment ... and just want to acknowledge what a mammoth task it is to be a ‘modern day dad’. Love your work! ... #happyfathersday2020 #keepshowingup

08.01.2022 An inspiring journey reflected on by @sssarah_ann. This incredible mumma came into Full Circle with nipples that had certainly seen better days and needed some healing and latch support. Three months on these are her words... Breastfeeding was always something I wanted to do, but it wasn’t until after I had my baby that I realised it definitely isn’t as easy as I thought. It seemed like we were having problems after problems (severe nipple damage, nerve damage, vasospasms..., nipple blanching, bacterial infections) and I was really upset about not being able to do it for my baby. I was referred to Bekki from a friend who said she was ‘life changing’, and my friend was not wrong. She saved my breastfeeding dream and if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be breastfeeding 3 months on. I was so broken the first time I saw Bekki but her amazing nature was very reassuring and she gave me some fantastic coaching to make me the breastfeeding mumma I am today. I can not recommend her enough, she definitely changed our lives. Amazing mumma, thank you for your kind words and for sharing. Beautiful photos shared with consent. #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclecommunity

06.01.2022 The theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2020 is Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet. In line with this theme, WHO and UNICEF are calling on governments to protect and promote women’s access to skilled breastfeeding counselling - a critical component of breastfeeding support. Breastfeeding provides every child with the best possible start in life. It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers. And it forms part of a sustainable f...ood system. However, while breastfeeding is a natural process, it is not always easy. Mothers need support both to get started and to sustain breastfeeding. Together, through commitment, concerted action and collaboration, we can ensure that every mother has access to skilled breastfeeding counselling. Breastfeeding deserves and needs support. 05.01.2022 A beautiful gaggle of mothers & babes, who have been coming together ‘in circle’ for the past 6months. This is the first of the Full Circle mothers’ groups. These women, these mothers have supported each other through a global pandemic (!!), alongside the highs and lows of new parenthood. Their connections are real, friendships solidified. Yesterday was their first face-to-face gathering since COVID hit. It reinforced the fact that no connection between them was lost while... meeting up virtually for the past few months. When you connect with people who are good for you, you feel it and this group has all the feels! #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

05.01.2022 Wise words that are relevant from the moment a child is born. Thank you to Neurochild Community for the wonderful wisdom you share.

04.01.2022 Sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of a tunnel. Sometimes it’s hard to believe better days are ahead. Sometimes it’s hard to get a sense of how transient this moment, this chapter really is. ... The only true constant in parenting is that it’s ever-changing. Nothing lasts forever... and who knows what tomorrow may bring. Beautiful photo from @deisel #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

03.01.2022 Talking all things breastfeeding during World Breastfeeding Week 2020.

02.01.2022 As the saying goes - ‘What you go through grows you’. The growth, the expansion, the transformation of ‘birth’ doesn’t stop when your baby arrives, in fact some would argue that’s when it really begins. Here at Full Circle we have the absolute privilege of witnessing so many incredible families ‘rise to the occasion’ of parenting (which does not have a rule book associated). ... One silver lining of challenges experienced in the postnatal period, is that it forces parents to really tune in and observe their baby. These parents are thrown in the deep end of uncertainty and that forces them to figure out what’s important to them. Whilst it’s undeniably hard... the clarity of learning their own unique child and trusting their own unique connection with them is such a spectacular reward. We are already so proud of our beautiful Full Circle families. Stunning illustration from @charliemackesy (check out his incredible book - The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse). #whatyougothroughgrowsyou #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

01.01.2022 A little reminder from us at Full Circle... Be as kind and gentle to yourself as you’d have anyone be with your baby. You very much matter and there is no ‘perfect’ in this parenting game. #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity

01.01.2022 Happy birthday to us! Today marks twelve months since Full Circle opened. With over 185 families cared for throughout 2020, we have been busy and loving it! What a year to start a business 2020 has been....Within four short months of launching we were in the thick of COVID19 and in ‘lockdown’ here in Brisbane. Full Circle has been there throughout the ups and downs of 2020 to support many new families who were dealing with a very different world during the height of the pa...ndemic. It has been such a pleasure to offer continuity of care for all the beautiful Full Circle families and we look forward to welcoming many more in the next year ahead. Thank you to all our families for the honor, trust and privilege of supporting you through such a tender time. #fullcirclemidwife #fullcirclelactation #fullcirclecommunity #oneyearold
