23.01.2022 26ha blackberries/Broome done, trying to catch up after last year being a write off

21.01.2022 1st day of spring after a soft winter, livestock reflecting that, cattle nearly shining already. Warm start to sep with a full moisture profile, couldn’t be more different to this time last here. Rising 2yo pb black simmental bulls ready for joining.

20.01.2022 2nd calvers that have seen every weather extreme in their short lives, I was very concerned they would calve later with the extreme drought, lack of feed, water quality & just general cattle behaviour last season, barley saw a cow/bull far from shade, shelter & water. Take my hat off to these girls on their 2nd calf to PB black simmental bulls. Good spring on the way to make up for their first calving experience.

18.01.2022 PB black simmental 2nd calver, doing a good job on her calf after the toughest heifer breeding season last year. Never fed.

17.01.2022 8mo & 20mo PB Simmental bulls after the worst spring/summer conditions to one of the best autumns.

16.01.2022 Nice reward after keeping all my young breeders through summer without feeding/supplementing cow or calf & delaying calving till after winter. Steers per hd topped $1505 & lighter brothers $4.79/kg liveweight. Bonus of best presented steers. Let’s hope these market conditions hold up in the next 12+ months.

16.01.2022 Feeling a bit lost without the responsibility of calving 100+ heifers this year. Granite country & rivers still a bit wet to get onto/through. But can’t complain, good times ahead in the short term.

14.01.2022 One of my favourite cows that producers tops of my bulls. Relief heading into the spring ahead in comparison to last season.

13.01.2022 The softest winter I’ve experienced, can’t believe I’ve got feed like this in July without being a crop. Lack of severe consecutive frost & hard cold fronts. Just hope it’s not a sign for another harsh spring/summer.

11.01.2022 With the severe drought/heat over summer I decided to sell replacement heifers, fat money was too good under the conditions & allowed for retainment of all 2yo, 3yo, 4yo. It’ll be the first time in 10+ years not calving down approx 100 heifers. Bought a couple regod heifers to keep moving forward with genetics. Growing out well but will be impossible to knock feed back. Better then reverse though.

08.01.2022 Drought, heat, fire, flood now snow

08.01.2022 Amazing feed for this time of year & having been contract spraying for years I don’t think I’ve ever had such a long run of still days with adequate moisture aug/sep. westerly is usually howling. 2nd last pic, country coming back with good phalaris competition after spraying last year. Last photo is of unsprayed serrated tussock that died in the drought/heat, good to see stipas/speargrass coming back. Not the best pasture & looks like younger plants died only, plenty of regrowth on older tussock. Still a first in my experience.

08.01.2022 Don’t need to wait for spring carry over feed is here. Repair your balers. Understocked with drought but still never had feed like this late winter.

07.01.2022 Smashing the hectares out on foot

04.01.2022 Perfect day for some spraying

04.01.2022 Spring is here.

03.01.2022 Working cattle in the clouds

03.01.2022 Good clean, clear flow in the reedy creek. A bit of silt coming through Phil’s river & enough for the high water mark to be above the causeway. Must have been short & sharp with good groundcover etc.
