21.01.2022 **FUN IN THE SUN - CANCELLED** It is with regret that Einstein Event have to advise that the Fun in the Sun Festival at Fogarty Park scheduled for 24th October 2015 has been cancelled. Council has been very difficult to work with in the past two years and this year they have further implemented additional unreasonable local laws for Einstein Events to comply with: We have been advised Balloons are not permitted on the esplanade due to the close proximity of the Great Barrie...r Reef - this will affect our signature 'Balloon Parade'. Petting zoo and pony rides have been also banned from any inner city locations affecting our 'Children's week kids area'. Fogarty Park must be cleaned and vacated by 12pm midnight which does not allow the amusement rides,stage equipment and some stalls to be pack down and vacate within these time restraints and no extension of hours to hire Fogarty Park has been given! A urgent meeting was held with the acting CEO Mr. Andrejic and General Manager Ms. Kirchner of Cairns Regional Council to no avail and compromise. Einstein Events booked Fogarty Park in November 2014 for the 2015 event, however the approval was not given until March 2015 and these new terms and conditions were advised to us only 4 weeks out from the event. With councils inability to work with Einstein Events and non-supportive actions, council has given us no choice than to cancel the event! We apologies for any inconveniences. All sponsors, business, contractors, stalls local and nation performs have been advised. See more

As you get the the Chinese Friendship Garden see one of the team from GBRCNY and CADCAI to get your lantern, candle and pens to write your message on the lantern then to be placed around the freshwater lake. The Lions and Dragon will perform from 6:45pm and fireworks display at 7:30pm. Food available throughout the event. CADCAI will also have other CNY Merchandise available for purchase at the event. 04.01.2022 Thank you for all your comments and positive thoughts. We would like to clear up the facts surrounding our Balloon Parade! For those who have attended the event you will be well aware the Big 3m Parade Balloons are made from a vinyl type product environmentally sustainable and designed to strict guidelines, these inflatables mascots cost thousands of dollars and certainly are not to be released yet reusable. The childrens Balloons are keepsake foil balloons to take home w...ith floatation weights to counter the lift capability. Therefore no harm to any nearby marine life and the festival does supply bins for any breakage. The Petting Zoo is banned for what reason we are not aware of and these activities ( including the balloon parade were present in 2014 and 2013 and these previous years this was not an issue. In regards to Noise Curfew the event finishes at 9pm which council are aware of as I understand council concern is the pack down noise of the jumping castles, PA Systems and market stalls which will apparently adversely affect everyone around the area. Contrary to Ms Kirchnier comments in the The Cairns Post and 7 Local News - Cairns. When our Project Manager had a meeting with the Acting CEO Mr Andrejeck and herself they offered no remedy, no support, alternative venue or any alternative arrangements the only thing they put forward was dont have these activities at the event OR close down the noise factors; stage, rides, music etc. midway the event at 6pm. Without rides, music, balloons and animals what is the event? :-( See more

03.01.2022 The original headpiece which crowed "Miss Cairns" in the 60's and 70's Fun In The Sun Festival. 29 agates encircled the crown including Topazes and Opals in a sterling silver setting. Made by local craftsman Mr. Tom McDonald.
