21.01.2022 Happy mind, stressed body. High performing people find a way to not only cope, but to thrive under pressure. Motivation videos on YouTube, TED talks, music, coffee, yoga, running and laughing with friends. These are the growing ranks of people with happy minds, but stressed bodies, and they appear to be fine. These people are often truly shocked when they find out they have high blood pressure or when burnout actually hits.... How we feel is important, but our feelings are often unreliable. There is a better way, and the respiratory system is the best version of a check engine light the human body has. This is why we teach all of our clients how to do quick breath audits for themselves. We also teach what to do when you get certain results. When athletes, high performing individuals improve their respiratory metrics, they are able to perform at higher levels mentally and physically for longer, recover quicker and to reduce risk of burnout. 14.01.2022 The relationship between sleep, weight gain and breathing. According to Peppard (2000), a bodyweight increase of ten per cent can result in a 6-fold increase in the odds of developing moderate-to-severe sleep-disordered breathing. Medical news today and other reputable sources report that 10 kg of fat loss, results in 8.4 kg being excreted as carbon dioxide (CO2) via the lungs, and 1.6 kg became water (H20). Meaning 8.4kg out of 10kg of fat loss is breathed out. ... A conclusion one could make based on this data alone, is we need to breathe more to lose weight. But unfortunately, it is not so simple. Heavy breathing impacts a process called lipolysis. Lipolysis is the process of breaking down fats in adipose tissues into free fatty acids and glycerol which can be used by the body as fuel. Dysfunctional breathing results in the body preferencing sugars for fuel and inhibiting lipolysis. Meaning when you breathe poorly your body is not using fat for fuel. Ideally, we want to have optimal breathing patterns when we sleep, so we burn fat in our sleep. Note: Long slow cardio is not great for fat loss if you have poor breathing patterns, but it is great if you do. I'll post about this another time because most of the information around this is wrong. I will say this, for now, the old school rule of being about to hold a conversation when doing long cardio is a great guide. Conclusion: Poor breathing is linked to weight increase (fat), and weight increases are linked to breathing issues. Improving breathing patterns helps with weight management, including weight loss. #weightloss #sleep #fitness #functionalbreathing #health #fatloss

06.01.2022 Happy mind, stressed body. There is a thing I call happy mind, stressed body. It is possible to be stressing the body and be happy. Parties are a great example of this. Poor breathing creates stress on the body and if you have poor breathing patterns your body can be stressed 24/7 even if you are happy. This can compromise the immune system and lead to fatigue issues... and even burn out. 4:6 is the technique I teach first. If I could only share one technique with the word th...is would be it. #stress #anxiety #breathing #fitness #personaldevelopment #wellness #functionalbreathing

03.01.2022 The Australian breath industry is small but diverse. Personally do not teach water-based training, including ice baths. But I am seeing some amazing pool training, surf survival workshops, expeditions to the snowy mountains and recently this.... freediving in a sinkhole in Australia. I don't know Adam, but I have been binging his youtube. This would be an amazing experience. (maybe on my 2022 wish list) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPCXESfFro8&t=529s...
