While coming into the gym 3 to 5 times a week is a workout and can be tough, it is also our chance to take our mind off of other parts of life and have fun. Remember when you used to have a 60 minute lunch break in school - where you would just run around and play with your friends and have fun? ... Think of the gym as your 60 minutes of fun with your friends... Ultimately, we all make the conscious decision to come to the gym for a multitude of reasons. Some of us want to feel stronger, others want to lose weight, and some people just want to have some feel of daily sports the way they have their entire life. 04.01.2022 Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young dashing fine specimen of a coach called Cheongylocks who went on a journey to find the PERFECT fitness program..... At the start of his journey, it was all about HIGH intensity, and working so hard that your eyeballs would bleed. He soon realised this was not the most sustainable way of training. While stressful training can lead to quick gains - most of his friends and family were also stressed by other things like mortgages, w...ork deadlines, family... This often leads to burnout, terrible sleep, binge eating, and injuries.... This took him on another journey - experimenting with low-intensity training, focusing on breathwork, and heart rate training. This was boring as fU#k and he ran out of audiobooks... but it did teach him the value of learning to breathe right, and understanding that your body has different energy systems (some people call them gears) that you need to understand. And finally he settled on the "JUST RIGHT" intensity - which is the programming and workouts that you have at Functional U. Some heavy work, some light work, some long work. A blend of High intensity, moderate intensity and low intensity training - programmed to work with stresses of the average workweek. High intensity at the start, tapering to moderate and fun intensities towards the end of the week... Move well, move often, move for fun. Namaste Bitches! 04.01.2022 It’s scary going to a new gym for the first time. What if everyone there is more fit than you? What if they all stare? Once inside, will anyone talk to you? Where is the bathroom? And what should you wear? We’re here to tell you that although those worries are common and understandable, you shouldn’t let them stop you from an experience that will change your life.... Everyone in the gym had to walk through those doors for the first time, and everyone remembers those feelings of uncertainty and fear. While some people in the gym may be more fit than you, many will be starting out just like you. On your first visit our coaches will give you a tour of the facility (including the bathroom!) and give you all the information to ensure you are set up for success. The secret is this everything gets easier after that first day. Sure, the workouts will always be challenging, but you’ll quickly learn where everything is and even start to remember some names. You just need to walk through the door. We’ll do the rest.
