16.01.2022 The Overnewton Castle Lone Pine sits on a mound as a significant tribute to Frank Norman Taylor - the son of William and Helen Taylor born at Overnewton in 1872. He was educated at Melbourne Grammar, then Ormond College, Melbourne. He managed the families property, Manfred, at Balranald, before buying a property Bringalbit Estate, near Kyneton. He married Janet Christina, daughter of William and Mary Templeton. William’s mother, Janet Templeton, had in 1831 chartered th...e brig Czar of 700 tonnes, and sailed with her family from England to Tasmania, bringing the very first Merino sheep to the area. In 1915 Frank Norman enlisted for service in the Great War in the 23rd Battalion,(Machine Guns) leaving Australia in the Euripedes in June 1915. and in November of the same year he was wounded at Gallipoli, and invalided home in June 1916. Sadly Frank died in 1918 as a result of his wounds at Gallipoli. He left a wife and two children. His son, Frank Inglis sadly died in his 2nd year of Medicine at Melbourne, in 1932. His daughter Cynthia was school captain and Dux, of St Catherines Girls School, Toorak.
