20.01.2022 Do you wake up tired? Do you struggle to fall asleep? Do you wake easily during the night? ... Sleep is ESSENTIAL to our health. Without it you cannot heal. Without sleep, you can really feel like your losing your marbles So why not give Acupuncture a go to improve your sleep? Studies have shown that acupuncture can help with insomnia in a number of ways. It increases the serotonin of your nocturnal endogenous melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep cycle. It promotes opioid production which helps with pain management. It increases blood flow in the cerebrum. It lowers sympathetic tone which improves relaxation. It helps to regulate neurotransmitters such as serotonin which leads to changes in brain chemistry and mood. It increases nitric oxide levels in the brain which may help produce sleep. Nicole our experienced Acupuncturist will also give you advice on good sleep hygiene and other lifestyle factors that may be disrupting your zzzzzz. Book online with her from the link in our bio. www.fundamentalhealth.com.au

20.01.2022 We're spending a few weeks talking about common misconceptions when it comes to Counselling. A common belief is that our friends and families can substitute professional counselling. Reality:We understand that social support is one of the best things for our mental wellbeing and health, however it's important to recognise counselling is very different from the relationships you have with your friends and family.... A counsellor is a trained professional who has specialist skills. Counselling is completely confidential. This means that you can speak freely, without needing to censor yourself the way you might with family and friends. Counselling has no bias. Counsellors are equipped to work with clients with mild to moderate mental health problems; for example, depression, anxiety, the need to manage harmful emotions and behaviours, or difficulties with coping with traumatic experience and events. Counsellors listen to, empathise with, encourage and help to empower their clients. Krista our wonderful counsellor is available to support you. You can book in with her via our website or give us a call.

19.01.2022 While there is no one diet for PCOS, we do know that lower GI foods are the better choice if you have PCOS Glycaemic Index (GI) measures howquickly or slowly a carbohydrate food is broken down and increases the blood glucose level. Some examples foods with a lower GI include rolled oats (lower GI) instead ofinstant oats (higher GI), long grain brown rice/white rice (lower GI) instead of Jasmine or medium grain brown/whiterice (higher GI), soy milk/milk (lower GI) inste...ad of rice/oat milk (higher GI) and pearl/Israelicous cous (lower GI) instead ofcouscous (higher GI). You can also lower the GI of foods by adding acidity to a meal e.g. add a dressing made of vinegar or lemon juice ; adding fibre to meals such psyllium husk to breakfast cereal, choosing high fibre wholegrain breads/cereals; cookingthen cooling rice or potato and eating protein with as part of a meal with lower GIcarbohydrate and low carbohydrate vegetables. Speak with Tina directly for personalised information and nutritional support. Book online today through our website.

12.01.2022 Did you know that it's ok to slouch? It's also ok to not be wearing gym clothes? It's okay to be unbalanced, unsteady, and not flexible? We just need to MOVE!... This is me on my lunch break yesterday. I spend 8 hours a day on my feet manually moving people, and the sport and hobbies I do are mostly strength based, so the last thing I want to do on my time off, is more structured exercise... But I still felt the need to move my body in ways that it doesnt get to do often. I needed to deep breathe, I needed to slouch, I needed to stretch forwards. This video is sped up 3x so it was just a few minutes of this unsteady, inflexible movements but it had me feeling refreshed afterwards! You need to move. If your job is relatively sedentary, maybe your body is crying out for that structured exercise and strength work Or maybe you're a tradie and move all day, everyday, so maybe your body is crying out for deep breathing, meditative yoga flows Your body should be challenged in all directions and movements. Just like a kid can roll, jump, swing, we should be able to do this too. It's doing little things like the above video during the day that will help you progressed there!
