13.01.2022 I went to see two films in Fitzroy North about the iconic Australian artist Vali Myers. Vali was always an inspiration for me. I admired the way she passionately embraced life with such enthusiasm, humour and creativity. Vali's appreciation of nature and its cycle of life was evident in the way that she lived as well as in her art, and reflected my own reverence and respect for the sacredness of life.... The film director Ruth Cullen was there on the night answering questions, and I asked her if Vali had the same creative approach to death as she had to life. Ruth answered that Vali was comfortable with the mysterious nature of death and saw it as being just another part of life. According to Ruth, days before her death Vali had lay on her bed dressed up in her bohemian splendour and said with a cheeky swagger- "Here I am, fu...k death!" See more
