These guidelines have been designed to help achieve a good standard of health, prevent or minimise the risk of chronic disease and to make us age more graciously! So what’s the best way to start working towards these guidelines? Here are our tips for the men:... Reach out to a health professional for some advice on the best way to get started and to undergo an exercise screening to make sure you are ready to start and you don’t need a quick visit to your GP for a clearance/check up. Start slow and build and start light and increase! Walk 10 minutes instead of starting at 30 minutes and lift 5kg dumbbells instead of 10kg. This will help to avoid excessive muscle soreness and likelihood of injuries. Aim for consistency rather than quick weight loss results. Being consistent with exercise brings results over the long haul! Be realistic with goals and hold yourself accountable. 14.01.2022 Gyms have now reopened in NSW. Here are some tips if you are following advice from social media: 1/ Find the qualifications of the person providing the advice. Make sure they are qualified and registered with a governing body. 2/ A’ one size fits all’ program does not really fit. Exercise prescription is very individualised and needs to meet your needs, fitness level and health status. 3/ Pre-screening matters to make sure you are safe to start exercise.... 4/ Listen to your body.
