13.01.2022 Have a read of this interesting project. The data that Fungimap has been gathering since inception has enabled this idea to be followed up. How encouraging to learn that records we have supmitted over so many years can provide the data required for a study like this to be done. How great is this? https://storymaps.arcgis.com//179959e3584147de83de97d115a7

12.01.2022 The bushfire crisis this summer in Australia has had an immense impact on many of our unique areas of ecological significance, with as many as 800 million animals estimated to have been killed and 272 threatened plant species being affected. . But what happens to our fungi in these fires? Many of Australia’s unique macrofungi grow in association with plant hosts, many of which will have been burnt. Others are a source of food to our native fauna and habitat for invertebrates.... Some fungi actually only produce fruiting bodies in response to fire, while others are likely to be permanently lost if their habitat and substrate are ever subjected to fire. Read more about fire and our fungi: https://fungimap.org.au/fire-and-our-fungi/ . : Pyronema omphalodes, one of the first fungi seen after bushfires.
