25.01.2022 Product Update We still have Winter White Oysters, Grey Oysters and Blue Pearl Oysters available for purchase! We have decided to continue to have these mushroom growing kits available throughout summer - they will just be made to order! Even though these fun-guys are 'Winter' Oysters, they can be grown throughout the year if you live in a cool area!... Our Grey Oysters are very tolerant of the heat and are still growing well in Brisbane (which is getting up to 30+ degrees) . Our Winter White Oysters are also doing well but prefer temperatures under 26 degrees. Our Blue Pearl Oysters prefer it much cooler and need temperatures to be below 24 degrees. Our Australian Reishi mushrooms are loving the warm weather! These guys are still available and will be throughout the year! Although our Spring Clearance Sale has ended, we still have great deals if you purchase multiple kits: Small kits: one for $25 or two for $40! Large kits: one for $35 or two for $60! 25.01.2022 Native Wood Ear mushrooms growing in Mount Tamborine, Qld! The Wood Ear (aka black fungus, Jew's Ear, Cloud Ear) is a jelly-like mushroom that is commonly used in Asian cuisine, especially Chinese. It's usually thinly sliced and we think it tastes delicious! We think these fun-guys are pretty cool and are looking into having them available as 'Grow Your Own' kits in the near future! Would you like to grow your own Wood Ear mushrooms?

25.01.2022 Mushroom Snowflakes? Have you ever seen these icicle-like formations on your mushrooms? Are you wondering what they are? These are the spores of your mushrooms! Spores have an electrostatic charge and sometimes can stick together to form spore snowflakes! ... Although these are nothing to worry about; your mushrooms are still safe to eat. Seeing this is a sign that your mushrooms are past optimum harvest time. So if you see these - pick now! Remember, Oyster mushrooms are best picked when the edge of their caps start to uncurl and the top of their caps start to flatten out!

23.01.2022 The Wonderful Reishi Mushroom We absolutely love Reishi mushrooms! They are one of the most interesting to grow, not to mention incredibly easy! And they love the warm weather too! And of course, their incredible health benefits (from immunity boosting, to areas relief, to anti-cancer properties) are just a cherry on top! The first photo is a comparison of a Reishi mushroom that has been rinsed of its spores vs one that hasn't. Reishi release an incredible amount of... spores (they are medicinal too!), which cover the top of the mushrooms when they are ready to harvest (top mushroom). If you rinse the spores off (which often happens when misting the mushrooms), you can see the beautiful red of the mushroom below! The second photo is an experiment we tried. We chucked some Reishi kits in a plastic tub (we removed them from their bags) and covered them with potting mix. They make some beautiful shapes! This is actually the second harvest from this tub! The third photo is of a kit we fruited sideways! The fourth photo is of a kit that fruited in our storage shed a month ago and grew a beautiful Reishi mushroom all by itself, we did not even mist it once! These guys are super tough! 09.01.2022 Proof that mushrooms are aliens? A very Funky Reishi mushroom! This mushroom decided it wanted to be special and somehow grew out the top of the kit instead of the side like a 'normal' Reishi mushroom. These medicinal mushrooms are absolutely fascinating to watch grow - they produce the most incredible colours and crazy shapes.... Summers coming! 01.01.2022 Some awesome Ganoderma mushrooms growing on a fallen log in Tambourine Mountain! Did you know these are very closely related to the Australian Reishi (Ganoderma steyaertanum) we have available as grow kits? Yet another example of 'gravitropism'! You can see the original mushroom was growing parallel to the ground before this tree fell down. After the tree fell, the mushrooms continue to grow, although changing direction so as to stay parallel to the ground. ... The reason mushrooms change direction as they grow like this is to maximise their spore distribution! The underside of these Ganoderma (like most mushrooms) is where millions and millions of tiny spores are released - you can see these fun-guys brown-red spores covering the log around them! Mushrooms are awesome! We love doing this to our Australian Reishi we grow to see the cool shapes they take on! Very cool to see an example of this in nature!
