25.01.2022 Furbaby Cottage Cheese has been paired to Furbaby Rocky Horror. Hoping for a successful litter. It's extremely busy in the Rodentry, busier then it has ever been. I hope after I get past these crucial pairings, I can relax. Food, substrate, cages, vet bills have all increased. It's something we just need to take on the chin for the progress of our lines as breeders.

23.01.2022 Some beautiful little beans hanging out in a pipe :) I like to give my young rats lots of options to hide in for sleeping, and to run through for enrichment. PVC pipes are in every single enclosure, as they are extremely enjoyable for all of my rats. These guys are just 2-3 weeks old.

20.01.2022 There is NO excuse for not properly sexing a rat. Babies can be sexed from birth, if a male doesn't have his testicals yet he is under 3 weeks old and shouldn't be leaving his mother. People who care about their rats don't sell them to pet shops. If you are supporting pet shops by buying live animals from them, you are supporting a business which puts profits before the welfare of the animals.

14.01.2022 To say I'm proud of the current rats I'm raising is a great under statement. The babies I have in the nest are all healthy, beautiful and so friendly. My seniors are in great health and all of my rats have completely captured my soul. I'll post more of them this week.

10.01.2022 So, 1/2 of my order is here! New cage... I wonder if this is the frame? If so I can get started on putting it all together! The second half of the order will not be here until later on in the week due to the public holiday. Can't wait to unveil this set up!

10.01.2022 So, you all know that I spend my time working for the rescue as a registered not-for-profit: fighting for education, welfare, and just directly helping people a...nd animals like Pidge and her entropion patchwork babies. Despite being pretty severely limited by physical disability and declining chronic health conditions, we put our all into furthering the rescue's goals, which means three years and counting of just scraping by financially. So it's time to support myself and Chris for once! I made this pin! It features one of Pidge's babies - a patchwork who, as a result of poor breeding driven by profit and neglect, has entropion, a genetic condition causing her eyelids to curl inwards so the lashes and hair scrape constantly against the eyeballs. It's horrific, it's painful, and it's SUPER unnecessary. People are knowingly breeding and selling patchworks with entropion all over the place because 'odd' animals can be jacked up for profit, and the only real solution is for people to get educated and boycott them. If the moral bankruptcy of making animals suffer for money isn't a strong enough motivator, know that the quote for the corrective surgery is $1000, these breeders are scamming you into a bad situation for easy cash. If you want a recommendation of a patchwork breeder, (or are one and want to chat about patchworks) please feel free to ask, there are literally only a few in the country who are still breeding in an ethical way, being smart, responsible and trying to improve their genetics, instead of just smashing out some profits on Gumtree. And as always, with any rat you buy: Ask lots of questions, make sure you can see their FULL setup and the condition and treatment of the parents, and walk away if you get a bad feeling, buying from the animal abusers 'saves' one rat by funding the suffering of more. And #uck animal abusers! 04.01.2022 Two of my grow out bucks. One will be travelling down to South Australia in December. I have two litters on the ground. aa c(e) and aa c(ch) as well as piebalds. One is a brindle which is exciting to have. I'll get good images of them with time.

03.01.2022 The same for rats. You will never meet another rat which is identical to the one before it. They're one of a kind. When a person says my rats are too expensive, I ask them if a vet consult is "too expensive". If they say yes, any pet is too expensive for them. Pets are a privilege, not a right. This is the same for my rats, my dogs, my rabbits. They all deserve to live pain free, interesting lives in good health and good species appropriate company.

01.01.2022 i know there not everyone fav but from a wildlife photographer and to witness such an event and get an image its still a memory I will never forget . the stor...y goes I got told that the nest got disturbed at a local business and I was lucky to be able to go from work and as I've always got my camera it was only a short trip (5mins) by the time I had driven there she was in full swing moving her babies to a new site I had witness 4 trips about well over 100ft . after get in position ready for here next trip. the image below is the outcome of a frantic 10min set up before she had finished . yet another amazing experience to photograph many thanks to you all j See more
