25.01.2022 Need cat litter? Support our rescue efforts AND get a great price!

25.01.2022 Hey everyone, looking for recommendations for a tattoo artist in Melbourne or surrounds who would have the know-how and talent to do a real-size tattoo of prints for a cockatiel. If you have any suggestions for any tattoo artists who you think may be able to help, please let us know! Bonus points if you've been inked and share a pic! <3 I can't find my picture of bird foot prints, so here's some from a blue tongue instead! Aren't they CUTE?!

24.01.2022 Does anyone known anyone who can help! Let's put those 6 degrees of separation to work! We are needing to organise transport for 20ft shipping container from Altona, VIC to Bemboke, NSW to assist fire-effected families. We also need to transport garden sheds from Emerald and Brunswick, and 10 x 1000L water containers from Yarraville (destination being confirmed).... These efforts, and more in the future, are to assist fire and drought impacted families, animal refuges and wildlife. If you can assist, or know anyone with suitable transportation vehicles who would be willing to assist, please get in touch! Please also spread the word and ask anyone who can assist to contact me on 0437 444 502. I will then put them in touch with the respective people to coordinate the item they can help with. <3

23.01.2022 COVID UPDATE: As an essential we will remain available during the stage 4 lockdown. We are waiting for tomorrow's announcement find out how the lockdown restrictions will effect the way we continue to provide our services (i.e. whether clients can transport their own pets, options for getting babies back home), and will update as soon as possible.

23.01.2022 Meet Abel. The furry hermit crab. Abel is a tom cat off the streets who will need surgery for a painful condition called entropion. Entropion is where the eyeli...ds become inflamed and roll inwards, causing the eyelashes to run painfully against the eyes. It can also lead to bad infections or even blindness. Most of the time it can be fixed with surgery on the eyelids, although in very severe cases, removal of the eyes is necessary to alleviate pain and suffering. We are hopefully that basic surgery will be adequate to resolve Abel's condition and this gentle boy can then go on to live a pampered life. If you would like to donate towards his surgery costs our paypal account is: [email protected]

23.01.2022 Every year, around 80,000 cats are killed in pounds and shelters across Australia within just days of arriving. Half of them are kittens like the one in this ph...oto. Half of all the cats and kittens who end up in shelters wont leave alive. We must change the way animals are treated by pounds and shelters across the state. Choosing to adopt is only the beginning, thats why I am calling for reform across the sector, including real accessibility to desexing. Please sign the petition today: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//view-e-p/details/12/192 More to come on this soon. Photo - Mary Shannon Johnstone

18.01.2022 Hey everyone, we are working with Happy Hearts Animal Rescue to try and get our local colony cats not only desexed, but also into safe homes. In order to achieve this, Happy Hearts Animal Rescue really need your support. Whether that is liking the page and interacting with posts to get them seen by more people, making a donation to help cover the extensive costs of vet working all of these kitty cats, sharing Facebook post to get the word out and help find them homes, or even... helping us to Foster some of the cats in need. If you haven't already, please stop by and like the page. Please share posts and interact with the rescues posts. Please consider a small donation if you can manage it. Or perhaps you could even help with some short or long-term foster care? Maybe you even know of somebody who is looking to add a pet to their family, or needs a barn cat or two? Happy Hearts Animal Rescue cares for many different species, not just cats. Together, we CAN make a difference!

17.01.2022 Lort Smith has seen a recent spike in feline panleukopaenia (sometimes referred to as cat parvovirus). We are urging cat carers to call Lort Smith if they have... an unvaccinated cat or kitten that is showing signs of fever, lethargy and anorexia. These symptoms often present before the onset of vomiting then diarrhoea. This a very contagious illness that carries a high mortality rate, particularly in unvaccinated kittens and young cats. Contact Lort Smith to schedule this essential vaccination for your kitten (or puppy) today - 9328 3021. #essentialcare #vet

17.01.2022 These cutie patooties all need names!! They're on their way home now from being desexed, and they're three little girls. Any suggestions? (Yes, they will be available for adoption soon) #adoptdontshop #rescuekitten

16.01.2022 8 weekly infusion time. Might as well do some accounts work! Would rather cuddle a kitty.

15.01.2022 I made it all the way through January with no accidents! And then on the 1st Feb I busted my wrist! So far the scans show no serious damage (i.e. nothing requiring surgery), but it's very sore, tender and going to need TLC. It's also, unfortunately, my dominant hand! As a result, some tasks require "work arounds" or I just have to go slowly to get them done, so please be patient with me over these coming weeks, as I do all I can to give your babies the best of care and also care for my dodgy wrist! <3 As always, thank you all for your support and understanding... and most of all, for the love and wonderful lives you give your furbabies (and feather- and scale-babies too!). <3 Where appropriate, please give them a kiss or cuddle from me!

15.01.2022 These dear little rescue kittens lost their sibling to feline parvo and have themselves been in ICU battling it. The rescue has incurred a huge vet bill to save them, but they deserve the chance to live. Please consider donating even just a few dollars to help them cover the costs. And please, remember to desex AND vaccinate your pets, and encourage others to do so!

13.01.2022 This gorgeous boy needs a name so his adoption profile can be put online so he can find a loving FurEver home! YOU could be the one to name him. A $20 donation to the rescue is all it takes!

13.01.2022 Oh my, these little keepsake urns are beautiful

11.01.2022 Finding Furever-Stray Cat Rescue Aus needs foster carers! There are some friendly boys and some shy girls needing love and safety while they search for their FurEver homes. So many people want a cute little kitten to foster and the grown kitties get overlooked. Fostering an adult cat can literally be more saving - and it's so rewarding to see them blossom. All you need to propose is their basic needs (food, water, litter and love!), and the vet care and treatments is covered... by the rescue. Kitties come flea and worm treated, desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped - all ready for adoption. Kitties currently needing foster home include: Cole - super smoochy, fluffy tuxedo boy. Approx 3-4 years old. Franklin - friendly, short-haired tuxedo boy. Estimated 2-3 years old. Grace - timid short-haired tortie girl still learning to trust. Sonja - long haired grey and white tabby. Very timid and needs to learn to trust. Estimated 2-3 years old. Storm - sweet, petite little black short haired girl who recently had major dental work and desexing (ready for a foster home in about 1.5 weeks). Approx 4 years. If you'd like to foster any of these sweet kids, please contact us or the rescue at Finding Furever-Stray Cat Rescue Aus

11.01.2022 SAVE A LIFE!! FOSTER A CAT!! I need foster carers for timid kitties who need to adjust to human homes. Can you help? They range in age, appearance and gender. Their vet work is covered, you just need to provide food, shelter and love. I can provide crates and enclosures to start them out in (they adjust better with small spaces that are slowly increased in size). Please help me get these kitties off the streets and also stop their next season of kittens!! <3... Photo: Colby. A recent rescue who has recently found a lovely home. <3

09.01.2022 FOUND Are you missing a bun? This little man was found in Point cook on the 13/2/20. Please contact the clinic if you believe he could be yours.

08.01.2022 Can you spare a few dollars, or even the time to share with your friends, to help us give Smokey his quality of life back, and help Mumma kitty raise her kittens in safety and find them save furever homes, where none of them will ever have to contribute again to the endless breeding cycle of stray kitties? <3

08.01.2022 Yvonne and the team at Pets Of The Homeless Australia do absolutely incredible work. They are truly amazing and dedicated people. Yvonne truly deserves this recognition.

08.01.2022 Don't get too comfortable kiddo. We're hopefully going home soon

08.01.2022 Can you help us rescue Casper and his friends? We need fosters carers to help us rescue some of the colony cats at our business premises before we relocate in a few months time! Some of these kitties are already desexed and being fed but need work to socialise them. Others still be to be trapped and desexed, as well as socialised. But Casper (tabby and white) and his two tabby friends, have become very accustomed to us feeding them every day, showing up when the hear my car, ...and waiting at the office door. (For those who have visited the business premises, you may have noticed the food and water bowl by our front door!) We want to ensure their safety when we no longer occupy the building, and the best way we can do this is to find them safe homes. But we can't do this on our own (our home is at capacity, especially while I rehabilitate Dorian.) Ideally, it would be great to keep the three together while they adjust, but I realise this may not be possible. So what's involved? I can provide enclosures while they settle in, litter trays, food bowls, beds. Vet care is paid for. I provide support and advice throughout the process. What their foster carer provides: love, patience, safety, warmth, food and litter. (Where donations allow, I can provide some litter and food. I can also help with access to cheaper supplies). They will need to be kept indoors or in an enclosure. Initially, if not desexed, they will need to be kept crated to ensure they can be transported to the vet while they adjust to being around people. The ultimate hope is that they will adjist and can find loving forever homes. The back up is to fibd then safety as barn/farm cats who have a human caring for and feeding them, and who will get them vet care when they need it. Please, if you'd like to save a life, comment below and message me. Share this post. Like it. Comment on it. The more you interact, even if YOU can't personally foster, the more others will see it too.

07.01.2022 Please, can anyone help foster these darlings and literally save their lives? The pound is at capacity and they are scheduled for euthanasia this afternoon unless we can find foster carers for them!

03.01.2022 WE ARE HIRING! It has been an absolute madhouse behind the doors at Bird and Exotic Animal Clinic. Our social media has only had time for community updates bec...ause of the sheer caseload we've seen since, well, the year began. We were rapidly growing before the onset of Covid-19, and now as restrictions continue, other clinics are diverting many of their exotics to us (WE LOVE IT.) There is so much work to do and even with all hands on deck, our workload just keeps on growing. Our team is growing too! : - - - ! ABOUT US: Here at BEAC we only see birds and exotic pets - there are no dogs or cats. Yes, we based our business name on a pun! We are a young team, who are passionate about adventure and advancement. There is never a dull moment in our practice - we mainly see emergency or unwell patients, a large number of referrals, and a few primary cases. If you dream of only seeing birds, small mammals, reptiles, fish and invertebrates - then this is the place for you. We are located in Williamstown in Melbourne's inner west, right on the bay. The town has a rich maritime history and we are surrounded by nature reserves, parks and beaches. Clients travel from all over to see us and they are dedicated, passionate and wonderful - you will develop bonds with like minded people who simply want the best for their pet. Our staff and our clients mutually recognise and respect that the human-animal bond is incredible, no matter what background the human or what form the animal. Our practice is open seven days a week, every day of the year. Our staff have a great team spirit, working together and supporting each other to get through busy days. Our super-nurses have a massive array of skills to help you in every day practice. We also have future colleagues (students) nearly every week in our midst, as we all love teaching and learning from each other. At BEAC we are all about the latest and greatest, encouraging our staff to partake in innovating, researching and always attempting new things. The practice is still developing and able to evolve, grow and change, and we are always open to new ideas. The field is also rapidly advancing, and a great place for the imaginative to flex their creativity in trying what no one has ever tried before. We strongly encourage further career development and continued education, and for all our staff to add a few more letters after their name. ABOUT YOU: We are looking for: * A full time veterinarian, AND a full or part time veterinary nurse * At least 6 months' experience in small or mixed animal practice (We will also consider exceptional new graduates) * Preference is given to previous experience in ECC or Avian/Exotic practice * Someone for whom exotics are their passion and future career of choice, with long term options to grow and expand with us * A passionate, hard working individual that can direct their own work, but looks to daily practice as a collaborative team effort * Lover of coffee, chocolate and cake preferred (but not mandatory!) * Resilience in the face of terrible puns recommended! Applications: Please email a cover letter and CV to [email protected]. Recommended closing date: 14th July 2020. However, we are prepared to wait and look very closely for the right fit. (We will be organising Skype interviews if you are interstate or overseas. Veterinary degree must be eligible for registration in Victoria, Australia)

03.01.2022 For those in Ballarat xx

02.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE: We would like to let everyone know that we are considered an essential service and are therefore still operating with strict safety measures in place. As I am immune-compromised, we are unable to offer our usual level of pick up and drop off engagement (lengthy chats, in-home visits) and must keep exposure to a minimum. Pick up and drop off from our facility and your home is still available, but with brevity and physical distancing. :( We are also unable to a...ccept cash payments, but have bank transfer, contactless card, PayPal and ZipPay available. I am so very support to those whose hand I cannot hold, to whom I cannot offer a hug or other physical gesture of comfort and understanding during your time of great pain and loss. I am sorry that I must stand at a distance, like an observer, when you need me the most. I'm sorry that I cannot sit with you to share memories, laughter and tears. But please know that I will care for your baby with the same love and respect that I care for my own. I will tell them how much they are loved and missed. I will tell them what a good boy or girl they are and thank them for all the love and joy they brought to your life and the world. I will pet them and talk to them. I will leave the radio playing for them and sing to them. I will love them like my own and do everything I can to have them home to you as soon as circumstances allow.

02.01.2022 URGENT INFORMATION REGARDING COLE & MARMALADE If youre currently following and supporting Cole and Marmalade (CAM) or any related pages please read this post a...nd share it far and wide. Chris Poole, the owner of the famous cats Cole, Marmalade, Jugg and Zig Zag has been locked out of all of his social media accounts along with his partner Jessica by the people he hired to help manage the accounts and grow the brand. Those people are now profiting off Chriss dedication and hard work and he is currently battling in court to recover his intellectual property. Chris has worked too hard for too long to lose everything. This hits me particularly hard as I had my identity stolen by someone I considered a friend a few years ago and it led to four months of me unravelling the lies and defending myself from angry people who were demanding answers. Things you can do to help: -Unfollow Cole and Marmalade, Jugg and Zig Zag, and refuse to like and share any of their content until this is resolved -Do not buy or promote any of their stories or merchandise -Go to the gofundme and read the story and donate -Tell your cat-loving friends whats going on https://www.gofundme.com/f/chris-poole-legal-defense-fund

02.01.2022 **ADOPTED** Bingo is looking for her forever home! Bingo is a laid back Prince Regent Kimberly Northern Blue-tongue lizard who enjoys nothing more than cruising... around the ground and hunting for her food. Her adoption fee is $100 which includes her microchipping fee. (Must be able to pick up from our clinic in Williamstown, Victoria) If you are interested in adopting this snazzy lady please contact us via email at [email protected] so we can keep our phone lines free for emergencies.

01.01.2022 DIY Enrichment Behavioural enrichment seeks to enhance the quality of captive animal care by identifying and providing the environmental stimuli necessary for... optimal psychological and physiological wellbeing. (Shepherdson, 1998, P. 1) Birds spend approx 50-70% of their time in the wild foraging for food. This is quite a lot especially when you compare it to how birds eat in captivity. In a captive environment it is important we ensure our birds are provided with foraging or enrichment to replicate or replace some of this behaviour. A busy bird is a happy bird Enrichment can also assist in providing physical exercise and mental stimulation. The physiological state of our birds is critical to their wellbeing. When birds have poor behavioural welfare they can have difficulty learning and they can be harder to train and live with often engaging in problem behaviours such as screaming, biting and even feather destruction. We also want our birds to have the best quality of life in captivity! Rotating toys can be a great way to enrich your birds life but pre-made toys can become expensive and frankly boring after awhile. So why not make your own at home! Here are some materials you can use that are cost effective and bird safe: Boxes, toilet rolls, other cardboard items, paper rope (great for tying objects together & safe for birds), native browse (lilly pilly, grevillea, bottle brush, eucalyptus etc), pieces of non treated wood suchbas pine, gumnuts, native nuts and pinecones! Please note: Always make sure to monitor initial play to ensure your bird is interacting in a way that does not put them at risk. This is also great for the family! It's a fantastic way to educate children about native plants, helps boost your childs creativity, it keeps them busy and is a great way for them to interact and engage with your birds! Here is an excellent example of a DIY toy from Cush our Brisbane Intern! #parrottraining #parrotenrichment #parrot #parrotsofinstagram #parrotsofig #petsofinstagram #exoticpets
