12.01.2022 Not everyday I can say......I am a perfect example why radiographs are so important because you cannot see what's going on below the gum line. This patients radiographs below...well they are mine....my dentist took them following best practice. Brief summary, over the weekend my last retained deciduous (baby) tooth fractured. Yes, you read that right...with baby tooth. I was previously diagnosed with a couple retained baby teeth because the permanents never erupted. Last c...ouple years, one by one they have been extracted. Well actually turns out, after this routine radiograph prior to extraction... I actually do have a permanent K9, just hiding all the way up ....crazy! Ill be the first to admit..... I've neglected my own mouth . Those working in healthcare often put things on hold for themelves because our patients are the highest priority ......However, I have to take some of my own medicine and get things sorted by the professionals I'll be sure to keep you all posted my case as I'm sure I'm going to be an interesting one. #gohomeK9youredrunk

12.01.2022 Continuing Education is extremely important and I have invested substantially into Equine Dentistry. Throughout this year I have been studying in this Platinum program learning from specialists in the field from around the globe! I am excited and proud to share another achievement and an additional 49 hours of continuing education this time through The Veterinary Dental Company.... Equine Dentistry....more than just rasping teeth.

12.01.2022 Working on a 20 year old horse the other day , horse is regularly cuddled by a horse mad 5 year old girl, and that horse lives in a paddock where bats fly ove...r and feed in the trees. Horse is not vaccinated. The moment the owner asks our nurse, can people get Hendra too?, it convinced me that we sure have a long way to go in getting the information out there! As Winter 2020 shapes up to be similar in Hendra Case risk factors to 2011 and 2017, where there were surges in case numbers, we urge clients to keep Hendra virus in their minds, and have a game plan for if their horse looks unwell, whether the horse is vaccinated against Hendra virus or not! Weve all been delivered on a platter how viruses work and how to generally stay safe from them , through this Covid 19 pandemic. So regarding Hendra virus : 1) wash your hands well after handling your horse 2) should your horse become unwell, use good personal protective equipment (mask, glasses, gloves) 3) socially distance from sick horses (dont hug and kiss them!) 4) dont let your horses eat or drink under trees where fruit bats(flying foxes) are feeding or roosting. 5) consider Hendra virus as a potential cause of any horse thats not well, as the clinical signs are wide and varied - with everything from : dull, listless, not eating, fever, snotty nose, cough, wobbliness, colic (pawing the ground, rolling excessively, kicking at belly, looking around at its belly etc) head pressing, circling when walking, chewing strangely, to rapid death! 6) strongly consider vaccinating your horse against Hendra virus, no matter how old or how well travelled the horse is. 7) dont believe the rumours about how dangerous the vaccine is. Just go and ask those who refuse to vaccinate what they are blaming any possible illness their horse gets now that they cant blame the vaccine? 8 ) if you choose not to vaccinate , ensure you have a game plan of how to deal with the situation should your horse become ill. i.e keep kids away from the sick horse, dont let horses go nose to nose with other horses, wash hands well , use PPE, dont blame the vet clinic if they have rules like they need to charge you more $ for extra PPE, stress, paperwork, risk of prosecution by WHS and time in dealing with sick unvaccinated horses, that they cant give your horse the proper treatment it needs for 1-3 days until lab tests rule out the possibility of Hendra, or even that they choose NOT to help you with veterinary science tools because you chose to ignore the advice of veterinary science experts on the best way to protect your horse. 9) stay safe people, look after your beloved horses. PS Most of our clients vaccinate their horses against Hendra virus now, simply getting them done at their annual dental visit. Cost for Hendra vaccine averages out at $2.25/ wk per horse throughout your horses life. https://www.vpb.nsw.gov.au/hendra-virus-spillover-warning

10.01.2022 "HUGE DISCOVERY! Have you heard, grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs!? For almost 20 years the veterinary community has known this, but not understood WHY.
