25.01.2022 Hello FURHS members, Below is a message from Vanessa Ryan, Education & Academic Lead, Flinders University Rural Health South Australia, to acknowledge NAIDOC week: NAIDOC week starts today, the theme is Always was Always will be, it recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.... NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. ........................................................................................................................................ The University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health is hosting a NAIDOC Week 'Cultural Burning' Webinar'- form more information please see below: https://medicine.unimelb.edu.au/school-structu/rural-health

11.01.2022 Emergency Night Our Emergency Night yesterday had a great turnout! Students from various health disciplines came to join us at the Sturt Campus. Chris Cotton, our very experienced ambulance officer from SA ambulance, gave us some very engaging and interactive presentations. He also ran a few scenarios for the students, so that they could participate and get a feel of what it is like to be a first responder at the scene. We would like to thank everyone for coming along and making the event such a great one! We look forward to seeing you all in our future events!
