19.01.2022 The Umbrella Tree (Schefflera) is an ornamental tree that has increased in popularity as a lush indoor plant as it is easy to grow in areas with low light. All ...parts of the plant contain toxic compounds including insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, saponins and terpenoids. If a pet chews on an Umbrella Tree these compounds are released causing irritation to any tissue they come into contact with. Signs of poisoning include drooling, swelling of the mouth and face, pawing at the mouth and face, vomiting, diarrhoea, itchy skin and general ‘unsettled’ behaviour from the irritation such as pacing. In some cases, swelling of the airways can occur leading to breathing difficulties. If your pet has ingested any part of an Umbrella Tree or any other plant, please call us on 1300 869 738 (AU) or 0800 869 738 (NZ) for a tailored risk assessment and recommendation, including first aid measures. Our service is free for all pet owners.

14.01.2022 This is something everyone should see. When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod a...round so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet. When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in. But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint. You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one. Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once. A bit of back-story: This is a baby puppy who had a knock to his elbow and wasn't using it properly, so he was taken to the vet. There is nothing wrong in these x-rays, thankfully it is a soft tissue injury and he is expected to be fine.

13.01.2022 Keeping your cat securely contained 24 hours a day is the only way to prevent it from killing wildlife: https://bit.ly/3dB7rIe It’s a myth that a good diet or feeding a cat more meat will prevent hunting: even cats that aren’t hungry will hunt.

10.01.2022 Follow the lead by ensuring the leash is held securely and that you’re able to control the dog when something unexpected happens. It’s the leashed we can ...do to make sure you’re safe, your dog is safe, and our community is safe. Last but not leashed, our compliance officers will be giving on-the-spot advice during visits to public places and spaces for those owners that have dogs not under effective control. Officers may have a treat for owners doing the right thing so be on the lookout when you walk your dog responsibly. 02.01.2022 Kangaroos. If you accidentally hit one pls stop and check their pouches. This female was hit near my workplace and had a live male Joey in its pouch. Her male ...partner is obviously distraught. Look at his face!! I nearly cried seeing this pic. If anyone thinks that animals don’t have feelings then remember this males face. Nb: male Joey is 6-7 months old and doing well with a carer. See more
