25.01.2022 The view from the Cray Shack over Killiecrankie Bay. One of the most special spots on the island. The kind of place where dreams of coastal distilleries are born. Where you can sit with a drink, drying off from a dive for cray and watch the mountain change colour as the sun goes down. @kararosenlund

23.01.2022 It’s an olfactory festival in Whitemark, Flinders Island today. @furneauxcoffee are roasting beans next door, we have the malt kiln pumping away smoking our next batch of grain, and a gentle breeze blowing in from the ocean. One of those blissful days on the island.... . @natalie_mendham

20.01.2022 We are so happy to be seeing visitors trickling back to the island. It’s been such a long and quiet isolation, and we’re ready to open our doors to those lucky enough to be allowed over. Tasmanians, if you are looking to explore your northern island, please get in touch with us, we’ll be happy to show you around. To our neighbours in Victoria and the rest of the country, our hearts go out to you. Stay safe, we will still be here when you’re ready.... @natalie_mendham

18.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that we will be participating in our first ever Tasmanian Whisky Week! The crew behind this ever growing festival aren’t going to let something like a global pandemic keep them down, and there are some great events planned from North to South of the state. We’re hopping off our little island to the slightly bigger one, and will be involved in tastings in both Launceston and Hobart. We have some very special things planned for that week too, so m...ake sure you sign up to our mailing list so you don’t miss the news. Head to www.taswhiskyweek.com for the full lineup and tickets.

17.01.2022 A Smoky Wedding - The Tale of Two Peats This is the title of our latest newsletter. In this post we talk about the differences in Scottish and Tasmanian peat, the smoking process and how we combined peated malt from both Scotland and Flinders to craft a very unique antipodean peated single malt whisky. Make sure you sign up to our mailing list to get future articles and find out about upcoming releases. Link in bio.

17.01.2022 Tides out! Better grab a bottle of our Untamed Gin to fill her back up again.... @kararosenlund

17.01.2022 Our distiller Tom chewing the ears off some lucky guests of the Straight From The Barrel event in Hobart. Huge thanks go out to the @tasmanian.whisky.week committee for putting this event on despite some restricted conditions. We had an excellent time pouring and chatting with some keen whisky drinkers, and can’t wait to back it up again tonight at the Tonic Bar northern distillery tasting in Launceston. Thanks @johnjarvis.hobartwhisky for the

16.01.2022 Amazing first Tasmanian Whisky Week event for Furneaux Distillery. Many thanks to all who came along, and for the TWW committee for making it happen!

12.01.2022 We’re very exited to be participating in this upcoming @seasidescavenge This is such a great initiative, and one that is close to our heart - keeping Australia’s waterways clean. You also get to trade stuff and listen to great music, what is there not to like about that? This Saturday we’ll be at the Whitemark foreshore, where the scavengers will have a chance to trade in trash for our liquid treasure. Our resident @theislanddistiller will also be putting down the tools and ...picking up the guitar to provide some tunes for the day. Head to seasidescavenge.org to see what’s happening in your community, and get involved!

12.01.2022 Very excited for tonight’s virtual tasting of our inaugural peated releases with @whiskyandalement Thanks to both physical and governmental isolation, there have been very few people so far able to taste these unique whiskies, especially outside of Tasmania. So we’re looking forward to broadcasting to Australia from our little distillery on Flinders Island, and geeking out on the four expressions of peated whisky available. This event is sold out, so for those lucky ticket holders, we’ll see you tonight!

12.01.2022 We had an amazing result at the Australian Gin Awards last night, with our Untamed Gin picking up a gold medal! Thanks to the Australian Gin Distillers association for putting this awards on despite the challenges this year. Head to the link in our bio if you’d like to get your hands on the juice that was tasted.

08.01.2022 We’re excited to announce that our next experimental series is being launched at The Flinders Wharf tomorrow! This label is all about having fun. We have access to some incredible ingredients on the island, and the freedom to play around with them in some new and unusual styles. This next instalment of our Experimental Series harnesses some of these abundant edible native herbs and fruits to create an incredibly unique product - FLINDERS ISLAND NATIVE GIN.... This gin is not for the faint of palate. With big herbaceous notes of native juniper, native rosemary, wild fennel and kunzea, this is a quintessentially Australian flavour profile, and we look forward to seeing how people use it. Only 50 bottles were made, so this product will be available exclusively from The Flinders Wharf. @natalie_mendham and @ness_vanderburgh

07.01.2022 If Furneaux Distilling Co. has a spirit animal, it's Great Ocean Quarterly. This glorious love song to the ocean, founded in 2013, springs from the same inspirations that fire the stills at Furneaux. And @greatoceanquarterly are currently crowdfunding the release of a very special edition, their 'Lost Eighth' issue. A high-quality, heavy stock journal of literature, poetry, breathtaking photography, music, science, history and more, it's the perfect accompaniment to...oh, say......a 100% Flinders Island Bourbon Cask whisky, perhaps? Find the armchair that transports you to the swell-pounded coastlines in your mind, pour a glass and open this feast of oceanic art. You won't be disappointed. Go to @greatoceanquarterly and hit the link in their bio. #artideasandthesea #greatoceanquarterly #photography #ocean #oceanlife #photooftheday #crowdfunding #journal #printed #printisnotdead #fortheloveofprint #greatoceansoftheworld

05.01.2022 There’s a bit of weather on the island today. A wild easterly shaking the windows and battering us with rain. We don’t mind though, it’s nice and warm in the distillery with both stills pumping at full strength, and the rain is filling up our tanks with the delicious water that gives our spirits a little briney edge. of slightly calmer seas by @ness_vanderburgh

05.01.2022 Tonight at @tasmanian.whisky.week Straight From The Barrel tasting in Hobart, we are launching for the first time ever, our 100% Flinders Island Peated Whisky! 02.01.2022 A sneak peek at the upcoming inaugural release from our experimental series. We have so many amazing and unique flavours here on Flinders Island, that we couldn’t wait to begin experimenting with them. After lots of foraging and flavour testing, we have put together some beautiful endemic ingredients to make this Native Gin. The base is a native juniper, known as Boobialla, with present flavours of native rosemary, Kunzea and citrus. It’s an incredibly unique gin, and sips be...autifully with soda and fresh grapefruit, or in a herbal Australian Negroni. This product is extremely limited, and will be available online soon. Sign up to our mailing list to learn more about our foraging adventures! @ Furneaux Distillery

01.01.2022 Our inaugural peated whiskies are almost ready! To finally be decanting our first batch of Flinders Island peated whisky is a momentous occasion for us at Furneaux Distillery. The liquid coming out of these casks represents the fruition of a dream to create a maritime peated whisky on a remote island in the middle of Bass Strait ~ Damien Newton Brown, Founder and Distiller... The first of our peated bottlings will be launched at our tastings during Tasmanian Whisky Week. We will be participating in events in Hobart and Launceston on the 13th and 14th of August. Head to www.taswhiskyweek.com for the full lineup and tickets. Online sales will be made available in the days following Tas Whisky Week, so make sure you sign up to our mailing list to get first notification on these releases. @ness_vanderburgh

01.01.2022 Wetting down the barley is a crucial part of a post-malt peating. Our mobile malt kiln is designed to recreate the traditional process from Scotland of smoking the grain by lighting a peat fire underneath, the smoke from which will be drawn upwards, permeating a thick layer of wet barley. The moisture will help the smoke cling to the grain giving us a nice strong peaty flavour. Limited stock remains from our inaugural peated releases, head to the link in our bio to make sure ...you don’t miss out! @natalie_mendham
