25.01.2022 "Sharing" from another business page with their permission to do so. A customer asked me how much I would charge to paint his two story foyer. My reply: $1500... His reply: WOW, just to paint a couple walls? Why so much? My reply: Well, this estimate also includes for the non productive factors. He questioned: What is nonproductive factors?" My reply: Just the usual things like taxes, insurance, rent, fuel etc, etc. I asked: How much do you think it should cost? He responded matter-of-factly: Around $800 at the most... It's just painting and a fairly simple job right? I calmly said: Okay sir, for $800 I invite you to do it yourself. He said: But.... I don't know how to. I replied: Okay, for $800 I'll teach you. So besides saving you $700, you'll get the knowledge for the next time. It seemed right to him and he agreed. I continued: To get started you will need tools, drops, ladders, scaffolds, brushes, poles etc... He said: But I don't have all this type of equipment and I can't afford to buy all of these things just to paint my foyer. I offered: Okay then, for an additional $200 I'll rent my equipment to you. Okay, he says. I replied: So on Tuesday I will be available to start teaching you. He said: But I can't on Tuesday I only have time today. I said: I'm sorry sir, but Tuesday is the only day this week that I will be available to teach and rent you my equipment. The rest of the week is already scheduled for other customers. He exclaimed frustated: Damn! That means I gotta rearrange my schedule and sacrifice my whole Tuesday?! I said: That is correct sir! I will also provide you with a list of all the materials you will need to go to the store and purchase for this job. Also, loading of the van for your job will take place Tuesday morning around 6am. After the project is complete, all equipment and tools need to be cleaned and reloaded back onto the van. He asked in disbelief: At 6am??? Nope! Way too early for me! So much work just to do a little bit of painting! You know what, I've been doing some serious thinking and I've decided that it would be best if you just went ahead and did the job for me. $1500 seems fair now and I'd rather it be done right by true professionals. The moral of the story for any buyer: When you hire a professional to do a job, you're not only paying for the labor and material being used. It also includes: Knowledge Experience Tools Services Punctuality Accountability Professionalism Accuracy Guarantee Sacrifices Safety and security No one can denigrate other people's work by judging prices. Only by knowing all the elements necessary to complete a certain project can you estimate the true cost. 19.01.2022 Running your own business means wearing a lot of hats. But one of your priorities should be establishing how you handle your money and setting the groundwork for good habits. Understand your deductions Before you start, it’s essential to understand what expenses you can and can’t claim. This means you’ll keep the right receipts and track the right expenses. ... Get a system sorted Getting your expenses recorded and your invoices collated means you’ll be able to spend more time doing the important stuff in your business. Keeping on top of your cash means you’re more likely to succeed. Consider choosing a software platform which allows you to record your time spent on projects, it’ll make sending those invoices that much easier! Stash that cash When you’re running your own business or working for yourself, it’s important to always keep your tax obligations top of mind. Make sure you have money set aside in a separate account or consider entering into voluntary instalments. One way to budget and keep on top of your business tax is to pay yourself a wage. Keeping your accounts separate also prevents you from thinking of all your business income as spending cash!

10.01.2022 ***SUPERANNUATION PAYMENTS*** The Treasury Laws Amendment (Recovering Unpaid Superannuation) Bill 2019 has recently passed through Parliament and received Royal Assent. This legislation relates to employers who have unpaid superannuation liabilities for any employees (including owners and directors) for the quarters between 1 July 1992 and 31 March 2018. The amnesty allows employers to voluntarily disclose unpaid superannuation amounts without incurring the administration pen...alty of $20 per employee per quarter or the Part 7 penalty. Currently the maximum penalty for Part 7 is 200% of the amount of the charge payable. The benefit of taking advantage of the amnesty is that you will be entitled to a tax deduction for the amounts of superannuation paid to the ATO prior to 7 September 2020. Failing to make payment by this date or take advantage of the amnesty will result in a deduction being denied for all old superannuation payments along with administration penalties and charges being levied. With the introduction of Single Touch Payroll for all employers from 1 July 2019, the ATO has much greater visibility over which employers are not paying or are incorrectly paying superannuation to their employees. It is important that employers are aware of their obligations to pay superannuation on behalf of their employees, on time and in full. If you are an employer who believes that they have an outstanding superannuation liability to any employee during this period, no matter how big or small and you would like to speak with us further regarding your options to take advantage of this amnesty, please phone our office on (07) 3812 1745 to make an appointment.

05.01.2022 A ship engine failed and no one could fix it, so they brought in a guy with 40 years experience. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. After lo...oking things over, the guy reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine burst back into life. The engine was fixed! 7 Days later the owners got his bill for $10,000. "What?!" the owners said. "You hardly did anything. Send us an itemised bill." The reply simply said: Tapping with a hammer: $2 Knowing where to tap: $9,998 Don't ever underestimate experience.
