24.01.2022 Interested in getting to know some of the people that give of themselves to see transformed communities where young people thrive? Meet Justin. Every person has value and worth, I want to spend my life drawing out the potential of those around me. I have been able to do that in a range of environments and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing people discover their gifts and their passions, and then giving themselves to expressing those things to the people around them.... Seeing people experiencing loneliness, hopelessness and oppression is something that deeply saddens me. My desire is to see the work I do help provide pathways to hope and community for others. On the hard days, the thing that keeps me going is a deep sense that each moment of my life has purpose and direction. While I try and remain focussed on how best to serve those around me, a lot of life is also about growing, making mistakes, understanding yourself better and learning. So any tough situation is really just an opportunity to grow. Something I think is unique and critical to Fusion’s success is the long-term commitment to young people and their families. Sustainable change requires personal ownership, and we all know that’s not easy. Fusion does not enter a community without a long-term commitment to be in partnership with people. And that’s how it has to be. There’s no silver bullet, there’s no shortcuts, and there’s no easy pathway to seeing communities where young people thrive. Another thing I really appreciate about Fusion is the commitment to continued growth and refinement. Reflective practice is timetabled, opportunities to glean from the strengths of others are scheduled, improvements are made and evaluated. This honours those we work with, while modelling of authenticity and aspiration. Justin Low. Fusion Youth Services Manager, Western Sydney.

17.01.2022 Around Australia, teams used the recent School Holidays to connect with young people in their communities. For young people on the Mornington Peninsula, the theme was 'Breakout'; breaking free of 2020, a year which kept young people in Victoria isolated from friends and services alike. Over 3 days local youth were able to reconnect, meet new friends and participate in opportunities they haven’t had access to for the best part of a year. ... For many, their favourite part of the day was actually just sitting and talking with people. For some it was a first chance to reengage with the nonvirtual world, as it was for our youth workers. Our teams look forward to continuing to support young people to thrive throughout 2021!
16.01.2022 Where does creativity fit in your life? @faith_and_the_arts is a summer camp for creatives. This year the team tapped into their creativity to offer people the chance to explore faith and art, online. ... Choosing from electives, opt-in Evening sessions and daily gatherings, participants explored the theme 'Grounded'. Reflecting on a year spent often in isolation, restricted, or 'grounded', people were given the opportunity to find the creativity and inspiration that builds in confined spaces. Like the life that sparks inside a seed once it's under the ground. This year a couple of young people connected to our work in the Blue Mountains were able to participate; pictured is one of the pieces they created. What a gift to see them develop their skills, in such a nurturing and faith-filled community.
15.01.2022 Last term our team in Perth were able to recommence supporting local young people in Schools. The Mentoring and Life Skills Program actively works with disengaged students; inviting them into a safe space where they are treated in a way that reflects their innate, immeasurable value. For one hour each week we explore issues like identity, values, bullying, reality vs. social media, and failure. The group were chosen by the school as students who would benefit from support to... make positive life choices and respectful relationships. It was a challenging term but hearing how the program has impacted them makes it all worth it! Here's what just a couple of the students had to say: "It helped with my self image and worth & I want to be at school more as I'm now safe and can open up." - Student 1 "I liked everything about the program. My mental, social, physical [health] have been boosted. I’m more social." - Student 2 "They understand how I feel about myself. They have made me feel happy and welcome." - Student 3
15.01.2022 We acknowledge the incredible design of our Creator who in the beginning decided that it was right and good for the First Australians, Indigenous peoples of his land, to be resident here to care for it and enjoy the fruit of it. And so we continue the deep Indigenous cultural traditions of respect, servanthood and honour by offering our respect to the Elders, both past, present and future, of the lands we now call Australia and in so doing, we join with and will continue the... restoring, reconciling and healing work of God within and between all the peoples of Australia. #alwayswasalwayswillbe #NAIDOC2020 Image Credit: David R. 13.01.2022 Have you ever been IN a story? Not just heard it or seen it, but actually lived it? It’s the difference between hearing a story and being IN a story that Fusion drew on over 20 years ago to help our nation mark the turn of the millennium. Recognising that it was actually the birth of Jesus 2000 years earlier that our world was celebrating, we invited school children around the nation to dress up and bring the Nativity to the streets of their communities. Advent Pageants were ...born! Thousands of school children across Australia embraced the chance to be part of the Christmas story. Dressed as Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, kings and even sheep, they paraded down the main streets of their neighbourhoods and towns, looking for a place where the Saviour could be born, knocking on doors and asking is there any room at the inn? at the top of their voices. Together they re-enacted for all who passed by, the story of that very first Christmas. The memory of that day, when the cars stopped for them and everyone watched on, joining in the boo-ing for the innkeepers who had no room, would stay with these young people for years to come. As would the story we celebrate every Christmas. This was just the beginning of a movement that would spread around the world over the decade that followed, as local people took up the opportunity to invite their children onto the streets to be part of the Christmas story too. Around Australia, in the UK and Europe, Africa, Canada (where it was very cold!) and even Jamaica, a generation of young people weren’t just told they were special, they were given the opportunity to be the stars of the day, valued by their communities as they brought a message of hope and joy for all. And today? Our challenge is to keep creating spaces like this in our communities, so that young people can shine like the stars they are created to be and thrive.
08.01.2022 At Fusion we want every family to thrive! And believe the best place to reach our potential, is through warm supportive relationships. We've always connected with families, and recently launched a mentoring and coaching program specifically for parents, offered in conjunction with our Families Course. The program provides a trained mentor, available to listen and talk through challenges families face, together coming up with ways forward. Here's what Karla* had to say about... her experience: I’ve been having lots of fights with my teenage daughter and sometimes I don’t think before I say or do things. It’s been really helpful meeting up for mentoring as I don’t have many people to talk to. As I talk about my situation with someone else, I’m a lot clearer in my thoughts. It makes a difference and helps me think before I act. I have been trying to listen to my daughter more and we haven’t been fighting as much. Interested in getting involved? We'd love to hear from you! * name changed to protect Identity

02.01.2022 "History can inspire or trap. Walls can protect or divide. Words can encourage or inflame. Power can free or destroy. Touch can comfort or violate.... Peace can be shared or withheld. Gracious God, on this day, when we remember past and present conflicts, we pray for the divided peoples of the world, that leaders, governments and each one of us may use our resources, our opportunities and our lives in the service of reconciliation, for the sake of future generations and to the glory of your name. Amen." A Remembrance Sunday prayer from ROOTS
02.01.2022 Our BumpStop Car Mods & Mentoring program gives local youth struggling in the school system, the opportunity to learn hands on mechanical skills through working on major modifications to vehicles. At this years SUMMERNATS, the group entered Missfire in its first drag racing competition and reached their goal to build a 10's drag car. The team were able to celebrate achieving a 10.888 second pass, with one of the young guys and his family in the stands and others getting online updates.
