20.01.2022 So just to do little bragging... I was recently a finalist in the Landscape category of the ACT Epson AIPP professional photography awards - I received 2 x Silver and 2 x Silver with Distinction Awards for these 4 images. Unfortunately I was pipped for the overall title by my good friend and colleague Geoff Comfort, who I do the Floriade workshops with. I couldn't have been runner up (along with another good friend Kris Arnold, who took out the Travel category) to a nicer person and better photographer!

17.01.2022 We lost a wonderful member of the Canberra photography community last night. A great character and an inspiration. He will be sorely missed. This is to help Mallie's mum fly to Australia to be with her at this time. Please help if you can....

14.01.2022 I felt very privileged this week to be among 15 photographers to have one of my APPA images selected for the AIPP Luminous Project. The other 14 photographers are an extraordinary group of legends, Masters and Grand Masters of Photography, so someone must have made a mistake including me in there, but I am so happy to be included and donate my print for auction. The Luminous Project is an initiative to raise funds to support the AIPP's philanthropy effort. The goal of the Pr...oject is to assist with education of students through study grants and to build a fund to assist the industry in the future with advocacy and philanthropy. 07.01.2022 Well, WOW, what a wonderful and exhausting week it’s been. On Friday I shot my last wedding of the season for a beautiful couple, finishing at 10pm, then got u...p at 6:30am for two days of judging on Sunday and Monday for the ACT/NSW Epson AIPP Professional Photography Awards. This year I shared Chairman of Jurors duty with my NSW counterpart Anni Payne, (thanks Annie) who helped show me the ropes. Unfortunately in this role I was unable to do any actual judging which I love, but I did get to do a LOT of panel chairing for the judging panels. Between that and helping with the PPY judging and packing up it was very two very long 12 hour days. It was so lovely to host our NSW colleagues this years in Canberra and to meet our fellow NSW council members and catch up with many interstate colleagues. By Tuesday I was wrecked and also sick with the flu so unfortunately missed our awards presentation dinner on Tuesday night. So sad I couldn’t be there but congratulations to all the category winners and to Jeremy Byrnes for taking out the title of ACT Professional Photographer of the year for his amazing and creative family portraiture work. Thanks too to Kelly Tunney for recording some video footage which I was able to watch from bed and to Nathalie Hicks for the wonderful photos posted today. I entered Illustrative and Landscape, and was a finalist in both categories. I was beaten by two superior photographers and fellow council members who were the worthy winner - Lori Cicchini in Illustrative and Geoff Comfort in landscape. Congratulation you two! I feel very honoured to be a runner up to these amazingly talented and hard working creatives. However I did achieve some great individual print awards for the photos in the gallery below: Jamberoo Cemetery - Gold Award Yoda - Silver with Distinction Award The Phoenix - Silver with Distinction Award The Wizard - Silver with Distinction Award Wood Spirits - Silver with Distinction Award Footprints - Silver Award Rust - Silver Award I also entered a couple of images into this years Shutterfest Competition in the US and my image The Phoenix took out first prize in the Creative Landscape category. This morning I received this lovely piece of bling in the mail which is going to look great in the office! All in all a very satisfying week that I’m still recovering from! Thanks again to the wonderful AIPP team in the ACT for putting on such a great awards event. And thanks to my lovely wife Melinda Kopilow, for constant support and pushing me to enter in the dark times when I am full of self-doubt and feel inadequate to do so.
