19.01.2022 Weekly Tip! Most modern vehicle are so reliable these days but checking under the bonnet for fluid level is critical for safety, reliability and saving money. WHAT ARE THESE FLUIDS FOR?... These fluids are the life blood of different systems operating in your vehicle. Three of the main fluids (although there are others) are engine oil, brake fluid and radiator coolant. The term life blood is important because you need to understand if any of them run out, the system they are the life blood for will cease to operate. That system failure will immediately raise issues of safety, reliability and also the cost to repair. Most systems are interrelated. EG: If you lose all the coolant out of your radiator and keep driving, you will damage the engine (big money), all because of a slow leaking radiator hose. Most of these systems have fluid reserves contained in the engine bay (under the bonnet). A person checking the fluids regularly will probably pick up the coolant level is dropping. That person gets the hose fixed or replaced. No more leaks, engine doesnt blow up, money spent, but much more money saved. The seller has waited to sell the vehicle before getting a roadworthy/safety certificate. Besides breaking the law it also invariably leads to conflict between seller and buyer, if the vehicle doesnt pass the inspection and repairs are required for it to pass.... Repairs cost money and if a sale price has already been negotiated, the buyer will invariable argue its not his responsibility because the buyer was assured the vehicle would breeze through the inspection. Facts you should know about selling a vehicle in QLD : To sell a registered vehicle it must have a safety certificate. Safety certificates are valid for 2months or 2000km, whichever occurs first. If the vehicle fails the safety certificate, the repairs need to be done within 2 weeks otherwise the car has to have another safety certificate done. Buyers beware Questions you should ask before buying a vehicle: When answering an ad to buy a motor vehicle make sure it has a current safety certificate? What is the date punched out to show when the certificate was issued? We recommend a third party to inspect the vehicle prior to purchase to answer any questions about the current status of the vehicle. Its such a benign statement that has got a lot of people in trouble when making a warranty claim on vehicles with new car warranty. The term refers to most Log Book Servicing on most new vehicles.... The Log Book (produced by the manufacturer) will dictate a service schedule that must be adhered, to keep the vehicles warranty valid. Most People know it relates to distance travelled, but few realise that its also governed by time. EG: Some vehicles have a schedule that has the first service due at 10 000 km or 6 months. Underneath this (in fine print) will be the words whatever happens first or something similar. Please dont disregard this statement, it may mean the difference between a successful warranty claim and an unsuccessful one, if you ever have to make one. 05.01.2022 Weekly Tip! In most cases, when your engine is overheating and your gauge moves to hot or into a red zone you are losing coolant which will cause engine damage.... Sometimes the gauge will go back down. This does not mean the problem has gone away but in fact worsened. The gauge is only designed to read coolant. Therefore, if it has gone from hot back down to cold that would mean that you have basically lost all coolant and the sensor, that determines the levels, is just reading of the air. 05.01.2022 Weekly Tip! To maintain gas pressure with your air conditioning it is recommended that you run the air con for 10 minutes a week on the highest pressure with the coldest temperature. This prevents the hoses hardening and failure of the compressor seals. This will also help prevent mildew and bad smells. We can service and re-gas your air conditioning.
