23.01.2022 This December, Australia will have the opportunity to learn directly from the leaders of the organisation responsible for the implementation of the Vermont Farm to Plate planby many accounts one of the most comprehensive and long-term food and farming system programs of its kind. In the first of a three-part webinar series, Program Director Jake Claro and Network Manager Sarah Danly will share an overview of the decade-old program: How it has successfully increased employment, business creation and food security through collaborative, whole-of-system actions and networking, aligned to a shared agenda of a better food and farming system for Vermont. They will be joined by practitioners and policy makers from across Australia who will share state and local initiatives, and discuss how the Vermont approach might be applied in our context.

03.01.2022 Stoked to have projects that warm the heart and leave a legacy of sustainability education and nature engagement. Proud as punch of this fantastic revamp and courtyard beautification at CASPA Services. And so great to leave this area looking fab and full of food growing potential for the kids.... Some really great engagement with enthusiastic youths getting our hands dirty, using tools, upcycling, construction and learning about soils, gardening, worms, compost and more. This crew has done an amazing job as we all worked together to build gardens and a series of #wickingbeds using recycled materials. We constructed new seating areas, and have installed chalk boards for planting information and garden art. Huge thanks to support from Subpod for an awesome worm farm composting system which we installed into brand new raised garden bed and seating area. Also much gratitude to Living Farm Aus for providing rich amazing compost for these gardens and wicking beds. We also had a play and fun with fungi with Swap and Grow Mushrooms So many great life skills and heaps of fun. Thanks to everyone at CASPA for your help and support And big thanks to Northern NSW Local Health District - Healthy Communities seed funding that made this project possible
02.01.2022 Western thinking has treated humans and the rest of nature as two separate and independent spheres. This artificial separation has led to domination and exploit...ation of the natural world by humans with dire environmental and social consequences. This year’s Right to Food and Nutrition Watch argues that tackling the ecological crises requires us to reconnect nature and human rights. And food, where our connection with the rest of the living world is most evident, is the perfect starting point for doing so. 01.01.2022 Emergency Covid Food Policies: Can They Become Permanent Reform? Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future put on this great discussion "Federal COVID-19 Relief: What does it mean for food policy on the ground?" and is well worth a watch. "While food policy councils and their many local partners have been busy responding to burgeoning local food system emergencies across the country, the third round of federal COVID-19 relief legislation was signed into law on Friday, March 2...7. How will this legislation directly impact support for small and mid-sized farms, the continued operation of farmers markets, loosened restrictions on eligible school meal sites, or funding for senior meals? How can food policy advocates engage in conversations around future COVID-19 relief bills? On Monday, April 6, the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future’s Food Policy Networks project hosted a roundtable discussion to explore how federal legislation might affect local resources on the ground."
