23.01.2022 Is it scaremongering? I don't think so.... As parents we are bombarded with 'shoulds'... all these 'guidelines' and 'truths' and guilt-trips.... Great long lists of things we need to do with and for our children so that they grow up healthy and well-balanced adults. I don't want to add to that... but I do firmly believe that in 20 years time, we will look back on this time and think wow, I can't believe we did that.. a bit like we look b...ack now and think I can't believe we used to put kids in cars without car-seats. Not everyone who didn't wear a seatbelt died in a car crash.. and not everyone exposed to endocrine disrupting chemicals will have fertility issues or get cancer.. but there are simple things you can do, easy things, that won't cost a fortune.... and for me? if I can do something to help my kids avoid miscarriage and fertility issues, and it doesn't cost anything or change our lifestyles too significantly? 17.01.2022 I love that even 3 months later (this is the December bag that we never quite got around to ), we can pull out one of @annies.crafts_ bags and we’ve got all the things we need for a quick craft activity... AND it’s low tox!! My little man is almost 4, so he’s just about to start (if he hasn’t already) building the factories that he will later need to make sperm.... that process is driven by hormones... so it’s super super important to be protecting him from anything that mi...ght disrupt those hormones - like BPA for example, found in pretty much all plastics! (Even if they’re BPA free, they likely contain BPS or BPF instead which are just as bad) Finding activities that reduce his exposure to BPA is high on my list of priorities for the next few years!! Did you see the article last week saying on our current projections, there would be no sperm by 2045 due to exposure to endocrine disrupters ? This guy will be 28 by then... 12.01.2022 Dirty Dozen and Clean fifteen - have you heard of them?? These lists are based on research done by the @environmentalworkinggroup in the USA so may not be 100% applicable to us here in Australia... but basically, what they've done is tested the residual pesticide levels in all sorts of fruits and veggies and come up with a list of produce that is better sourced 'organic' and another list that its not so important to choose organic.. The Clean 15 are ones that are pr...obably OK to buy non-organic, and the Dirty Dozen are the ones you should source organic if you can. It's expensive buying organic.... so it's good to know which ones you may not need to be so strict about... Although, as I said, this is research form the USA, so farming practices may be different.... Keep in mind that the word 'organic' isn't controlled in Australia and can be used as a product name with no need to prove anything about the product's status. 'Certified Organic' however is much more rigorously controlled and requires the producers to jump through all sorts of hoops in order to prove that their product is indeed produced organically. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia See more

12.01.2022 Hi! If you're following me over on @twolinesfertility (where I talk to people who are actively trying to conceive) you've probably heard my story a million times... This is my little fellow Teddy. He was a MAJOR surprise in our family, born when I was 44 years old .. 7 years and at least 4 miscarriages after his big sister - possibly more, I kind of stopped counting..... I am a scientist. I started out as an agricultural scientist, majoring in A...nimal Breeding and Genetics but I did some extra study (Post Grad diploma in Reproductive Biology at Monash Uni) and then trained as an embryologist and have worked in the field of fertility for close to 20 years now. So I've been working in the field for a really long time, I have a science background... but yet it's only in the last 2 years that I've really been hearing about the concept that exposure to various toxins throughout your life can impact your fertility... It's almost like it's kept a secret, like the companies that are producing products containing these ingredients are stopping us from finding out what they're doing to us... or it's information that is reserved for the hippies, or the non-vaccinators (I am COMPLETELY pro-vaccination by the way!) The more I read about this stuff, the more concerned I am about the future fertility of my kids. It's kind of like how we now know smoking can cause cancer.. not everyone who smokes will get cancer... and not everyone who is exposed to these toxins will have trouble conceiving... but if there is something I can do (anything!) to help my kids avoid the trauma of miscarriage, or the anguish of fertility treatment - I'm gonna do it!! I've spent hours and hours researching the actual facts and science behind this stuff. 07.01.2022 at the bottom here - it says that exposure to these particular chemicals is linked to a longer time to pregnancy (TTP) and also to lower sperm movements and quality.. you might not be thinking about pregnancy right now.... (or perhaps you've finished reproducing) but if you could do something to make that easier one day, (for yourself or for your kids) why wouldn't you?
