17.01.2022 Thousands of rainbow trout fingerlings arrived to the facility today as part of the ongoing FRDC2016-114: Insect feed for aquaculture project. Inclusion rates of BSF meal from 0 to 100%, against the fishmeal component of commercial diets, will be tested across all life stages of the trout. Both full fat and partially defatted BSF meals will be utilised to understand the implications of commercial protein separation on growth performance. This group has been tirelessly lobbying for legislative and behavioural change in the fight against Stable Fly for 15 years - with some promising results. Stable Fly are a biting insect which establish in organic agricultural waste and cause millions of dollars damage to livestock every year. 12.01.2022 This article identifies the need for greater transparency and traceability in foods and feed. Further, unless we continue to invest and innovate novel and sustainable feeds, illegal operations such as this may become the norm as the global demand for protein continues to mount.

A massive thank you to the engineering team at UWA for their contribution to the design and construction of a custom and unique machine.
