22.01.2022 Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast Day 5 - Gold Coast > Jacobs Well > Redcliffe Thurs 19/3/20 Today was a glorious day! The sun was shining and the water was beautiful! We dropped the skis in at the Goldie and as they skied we drove. Jacobs Well for lunch (fabulous chicken schnitty!) then onto Redcliffe. We had a bit of a rest before dinner then made our way to Pilpel Restaurant. I hadn’t eaten middle-eastern cuisine before but WOW!!! And the rose water flavoured ice-cr...eam with pomegranate caviar (from the pomegranate fish ) - fabulous!!! The Covid-19 situation has really put a dampener on our usual proceedings though. Usually our lunches would involve a local school or organization, but this Trek we’ve had to reign a lot of things in. Our dinners need to be in smaller groups and we haven’t had the usual fun together as we’re all split up. Variety are doing their best to make the necessary changes, and us Trekkers are doing our best to find fun where we can! Tomorrow night we find out how much we’ve all raised for the amazing kids that Variety support. 22.01.2022 Mike and I are on our way down to Coffs Harbour to begin Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast. Jet skiing up the amazing coastline for 700kms with about 100 other jet skiers over 5 days. Variety the Children’s Charity have run this event now for the last 22 years and have raised so much money for sick, disadvantaged and special needs kids and their families. 19.01.2022 To say our first Twilight on Egerton Night Markets was a success is a serious understatement! Thank you to all the stallholders who committed their time and eff...ort towards making our night truly magical! What a beautiful setting and what a wonderful response from the Emerald community! I hope all your stalls had a successful outcome also, and that more than anything you actually had a fun night! Thank you for all your hard work and your patience with us as we navigated the complexity of hosting our first Twilight on Egerton Night Markets, we are so grateful to have your support! And the Future Hope volunteers were amazing! It couldn’t be done without all their hard work And our nominated charity Yumba Bimbi were well supported too - more details to follow soon! For the non-stallholders in this group, thank you so much for your support also! We hope you loved the event as much as we did! It was successful because you came along . For all of you, would love your feedback on how we can make the next Twilight even better! And for the stallholders, if you would like a stall at our Twilight on Egerton Christmas Market on December 5th, you can contact Tamara directly on 0419023043 or email [email protected]. A lot of you have already messaged me which is great - and thank you for all the kind and encouraging messages of support and thanks. They have been lovely December 5 we will have two blocks of stalls (Anakie to Opal) which will be spread out a lot more to allow more space for everyone. Preparations are starting tomorrow morning, and we know we want lots more stalls and lots of food and drink also. For the veteran stallholders here, please put the feelers out into other communities also. The more stalls we have, the more successful our Christmas on Egerton will be. And because this event will be much larger, Future Hope is looking for volunteers to join our ranks. If you can devote a little time or want to jump in deep with the rest of us, call us and we’ll buy you a coffee and have a chat! Or you can email us at [email protected]. We believe that Every Child Matters, so the more volunteers we have, the more children we can help I don’t know about you but I’m more tired today than I was yesterday - and my feet still hurt But I’m also exhilarated and encouraged and truly just blown away at the response from our community! 18.01.2022 I recently called Deidre Tebb to tell her she won the $150 meat tray from the Twilight on Egerton draw. During our chat she told me she works with special needs kiddies - I was over the moon! Today we met at Fair Dinkum Fresh for her to collect her meat tray - and she was so happy to choose everything that went into it! These are her words: Hi everyone. I received a phone call from the lovely Tamara from Future Hope who coordinated the Twilight on Egerton to say I had won th...e $150 meat raffle. I have never won a raffle so was pretty excited and shared the news with my work friends and family. Today I met up with Tamara at Fair Dinkum Fresh where I met Jason and Tracey the owners. I was able to choose my own meat which is locally sourced and looked amazing. Thank you Jason and Tracey for providing this great prize and thank you Future Hope for organising the markets. 17.01.2022 Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast Day 2 - Grafton > Iluka > Ballina Tues 17/3/20 Last nights dinner was yet again complimented with the story of Arav, an almost 6 year old Nepalese boy who was born with one of his lower legs missing and his fingers joined and webbed. Thanks to the amazing heart of Variety, he now has a prosthetic leg that enables him to run wild and burn off the amazing amount of energy he has! It’s been wonderful getting to know him and his lovely fam...ily. Today was touch and go with the weather. Grafton to Iluka was okay up the Clarence River, then we stopped for a fabulous fish and chips lunch! After lunch though, weather started to get a bit ugly again. The wind was 20-25 knots and seas were 3-4 metres. Then there was the Ballina bar crossing between Iluka and Ballina which caused a few cuts and bruises. I don’t know all the details but I do know that everyone is fine! Great news! As a result tomorrow’s ski has been cancelled so we’ll make our way to the Goldie and rest up. We got to our motel this arvo and snacked a bit before Mike passed out. He promptly fell asleep before we came out to dinner. Tonight’s theme is Favourite and Famous. So far I’ve seen Dame Olly, Batman, Wonder Woman, Marilyn Monroe, and an eye-bleeding Rocky Horror’s Frank N Furter... 17.01.2022 Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast Day 3 and 4 - Ballina > Gold Coast Tues 17/3/20 and Wed 18/3/20 Due to the issues the day before, it was decided that we would drive directly to the Gold Coast. Hindsight however (and Murphy’s Law), meant that the weather was absolutely perfect! So Mike and I decided to drive into Byron Bay for brekky and a walk along the beach - which was just divine! We really need to get to the ocean more...... Last nights band were awesome! All the hits from the 80’s and 90’s kept us up and singing and dancing! Great food, great night, great family to be a part of! Today was Lay Day, so Mike and I went into Seaworld for most of the day. We were joined by Jazarah and her lovely parents and cute little support dog called Daisy! Variety has provided this puppy to help her in her world, which has quite a few challenges. But you wouldn’t know that this energetic and super friendly little girl had any issues at all! Everyone she met she said are you my friend?.... Such a beautiful little girl! We wandered around for hours, and her support dog Daisy did such a great job with the crowds and noises. Lots of rides and shows and fun! We all had a great time getting to know them and their story. After Seaworld a few of us went Go Kart racing and now I have some bruises! Off to a dinner of (mostly) prawns and now relaxing with our Variety Family. While our Jet Trek has some serious and important aspects of raising awareness and support for kids in need, it’s also an amazing time of unity and fellowship with friends we mostly only see once a year. Variety the Children’s Charity are such a great organization and do such beautiful things for the kids and families around us - what an honour to be part of this story... 16.01.2022 Future Hope has the privilege of hosting the Twilight on Egerton Night Markets. The first one is next Sat 14th November. Please bring a gold coin donation for entry, to be donated to local charity Yumba Bimbi Support Services who will be there on the night. The official opening will have Emerald Mayor Kerry Hayes, CHRC CEO Scott Mason and Olympic Gold Medallist Duncan Armstrong in attendance. Live music with Sophie Phillis and lots of food, these markets will be a great nig...ht to bring the family and wander under the beautiful fairy-lit trees of Egerton Street. 10.01.2022 We had a great evening celebrating our friend and team member Patrick. He’s on his way down to NSW to begin a new job and to be closer to his family. While we will miss his physical presence, Pat remains a key member of our Future Hope team and will continue to support what we do from afar. His tech skills aren’t super, but one of our other fantastic team members is Duane who runs Codewire IT here in town. He has equipped Pat with everything he needs to stay connected so we c...an continue to work together helping these children we love. Thank you to all who came along and laughed and ate and laughed some more. What a fun night... It did end with a tear when I said goodbye to Pat. What a great friend you have become and I look forward to watching our personal and working relationship as it changes shape. Travel safe my friend! 09.01.2022 Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast Day 1 - Coffs > Grafton > Yamba > Grafton Mon 16/3/20 - AM to arvo Last night we kicked off Jet Trek 2020 with a dinner and a chance to hear some of the stories of the kids and parents who have been supported by Variety! Such a lovely evening!... We love supporting Variety here at Future Hope Mike finally got his Legends shirt for doing 10 Jet Treks, and I got my 5 years hat! So great that it happened on the same year! This morning’s weather meant they had to cancel the ocean leg of the trek today, so we drove to Grafton so the skiers could head up the Clarence River to Yamba for lunch, then back again as we’re in Grafton for the night. It’s important that we have fun but not at the expense of people’s safety. Nice to see some sun as it rained the whole day before in Coffs. Dinner tonight at the Jockey Club. 07.01.2022 Variety - the Children's Charity believes that every child deserves a fair go, so Future Hope has been fundraising through markets and snag sizzles to donate to this amazing charity! In just over 2 weeks Mike and I will be on Jet Trek 2020 - Jet skiing from Coffs Harbour to the Sunshine Coast. He rides, I roadcrew for him. We do this each year with almost 100 other jetskis with about 250 people in total! What a ride it is! 100% of the funds raised will go to Variety to help t...hem continue to impact the lives of sick, disadvantaged and special needs kids in Qld. Future Hope have raised the minimum $2500. Let's see how much we can get before we hit the water on Mon 16 March... Let's do more together! 06.01.2022 Jet Trek 2020 - Coffs to the Sunny Coast Day 6 - Redcliffe > Mooloolaba Fri 21/3/20 - Last day Another beautiful day today but it was our last one. Skis went in at Redcliffe and they all said the water was great! Such a lovely location to finish!... We had lunch at Novotel Twin Waters then checked in and relaxed a bit before tonight’s presentations and dinner. What an outstanding result! $312,000 raised to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged kids and their families! Last years fundraising went towards helping 6523 kids! Variety do such a great job and Future Hope are so proud to support them! The stories of the kids who have been so positively impacted by Variety, so inspiring! Where is Jet Trek 2021? I hear you ask..... South Australia! Renmark to Glenelg via Kangaroo Island! What a road trip that will be!!! Thank you to everyone who has supported Future Hope as we together support Variety the Children’s Charity.
