01.01.2022 Jesse clearing an overgrown Manchurian Pear from a roof in Drysdale earlier this week. Our client initially wanted to remove it. Whenever this happens in our industry I tend to ask why? Why do you want it removed? She answered that the tree had become far too overgrown was blocking all the gutters and shadowing the garden area beneath it. She was absolutely right, as Manchurian pairs when left unmanaged do this. Their typical growth habit is spreading.... Our process is always to ask questions to get an idea of what the client really needs. So, I asked her - how about I take a few branches off all around the tree lift the entire canopy up and create a totally new shape while getting rid of the extended branches over the roof? is the worst that can happen is it looks ugly and if so we can just remove the tree. She agreed and Jesse climbed the tree and did an amazing job. The result was a completely new shape which allowed the tree to be retained and become a new feature of this side of the house. Climbing on these leaning branches is really hard, especially with the chainsaw going. The technique is to cut the branches in a certain way so the stay there, then put the chainsaw away and use two hands to snap the branch or log, then throw it away from the house and throw it to a safe spot. These skills in removing branches away from obstacles are very hard to teach and take a lot of practices as well as the right person. Our trade is very unique, as we have to combine physical strength and good judgement, as well as an aesthetic eye for how the tree will look as a finished product. Not easy at all. An Arborist like Jesse how can pull this off is a true unicorn and he has become an essential part of our operations. Many more of these pear trees to come this year that’s for sure
