24.01.2022 "There is a contradiction in leadership because the leader must keep the forces that lead his organisation together. But you cant do that unless you allow diss...ent, that any subject should be discussed from all angles and people should even be able to criticise the leader without fear or favour. Only in that case are you likely to keep your colleagues together." ~ Nelson Mandela during the closing session of the 50th National Conference of the ANC, North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, South Africa, 20 December 1997 #LivingTheLegacy #MadibaRemembered www.nelsonmandela.org www.mandeladay.com archive.nelsonmandela.org

20.01.2022 The first joyful moment in University Scholars Leadership Symposium was seeing these two inspiring human beings. As soon as my eyes caught sight of them, I felt... a strong connection. The costume looked very familiar and I could sense belonging to them. I hope that in the near future we continue to work together for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan. So happy to have met the representatives from Afghanistan at the USLS. #RepresentingAfghanistan #USLS See more
19.01.2022 Fascinating! Future Voices's Rashidi Sumaili Joseph on Australian Leadership: Rashidi Sumaili Joseph: "In regional areas such as the Hume region, communities h...ave been struggling with a range of issues including bushfire, recycled water issues and drought. Currently 90% of the refugee community is unemployed. Their children risk early school leaving and long-term intergenerational unemployment. There is potential for young people to become disengaged and marginalised through loss of hope and disconnectedness. There are also reductions in the number of apprenticeships, retail trade positions, manufacturing positions and traineeships available in regions and this has also contributed to unemployment. It is evident that over the past decade, the area has seen a rapid decline in local infrastructure to support manufacturing. "Larger companies have looked overseas in an effort to obtain cheaper labour. The changing economic climate has made sustained success increasingly difficult for small business trying to break into the industry and facing an ever-diminishing range of opportunities. "Regional Australia has issues of depopulation, demographic decline, social economic participation challenges. On the other hand, the growing population has been an issue in Australian cities and creates many challenges. "Australians need charismatic leaders who have a long term vision for the country. Not leaders driven by personal ambition or motivated by lobbies or donors interests. Australians need leaders who can find the necessary compromise to bridge our differences, defend our social justice, protect our borders, support young people to close the unemployment gap and fight for our regions economic future. Understanding international and national trends and opportunities opens up innovative ideas and creative projects that can support our community, business, tourism, industry, and farming innovation, improved health services, better regional passenger rail, and infrastructure sharing with other regional areas in Australia. "The Shepparton Nelson Mandela Learning Centre Project developed by Future Voices is an example that should be supported by Australian leaders. This innovative concept seeks to enhance strategic engagement and develop future leaders in education, training, innovation, and social enterprise development. It will foster intercountry cultural and business exchanges for targeted youth, females, socially isolated people at risk, and those who are economically disadvantaged and/or educationally disadvantaged." http://australianleadership.blogspot.com.au//rashidi-sumai

02.01.2022 Love it! Shepparton's Future Voices CEO Jennifer Hippisley on Australian Leadership: Victor Perton: Jennifer, what do you see as the unique qualities and featu...res of Australian leadership? Jennifer Hippisley: Good Australian leadership is complex, visionary, multifaceted, diverse, entrepreneurial, far reaching and brave. Not surprising, being based on a complex history. Aboriginal leadership has risen from the oppression of colonial invasion and the destruction of the oldest culture in the world. Our political system is inherited from our British colonial heritage and historical systems on the other side of the globe and from last century. Our multicultural society started on the goldfields with the Chinese workers but has grown through relocation of different ethnic groups post war times from the Boer War to present day conflicts, skilled migration programs and relocation in general. Australias concept of laid back larrikinism and having a go, one might argue, has grown from our convict heritage, bushranger stories, and the need to explore and settle in a harsh land in order to survive and prosper. Contemporary Australia is a melting pot of humanity that all coexist in one of the most attractive countries in the world. It is a great story of cultural unity and Australian leadership needs to embrace, value, promote and reflect that concept. While once we were seen as very far away from the rest of the world, today is different and we need to understand that we are in a global world now, with huge challenges to face and work together on... The uniqueness and features of good Australian leadership come from its historical base and a melting pot of characteristics that make it a relaxed and open style, inclusive, fair, strong and resilient, visionary, brave and persistent in the face of adversity. It is a style well placed to venture into the future world dynamic with confidence, diplomacy and creative solutions.
