24.01.2022 Theres been a reaction from farmers and animal welfarists about Katherine Tehs opinion piece in todays SMH and The Age. Some were farmers who believe we assumed too much about how caring farmers were about their animals. We are keen to hear more feedback. The article can be found here: https://amp.smh.com.au//in-the-interests-of-omnivores-farm... We also have a report that you can request to be downloaded on our website. The theme of the issues raised are: - the level of unacceptability of current farming practices - the perceived non transparency and secrecy of the industry - the belief that these are intractable issues that cannot be solved. We understand how emotional those are on all sides of this debate and how matured the social expectations are. This was a key finding of our report. It seems that a discussion is really worthwhile to air all views and to see how we can move forward. We think engagement and innovation is key for farmers, consumers and activists. We welcome the innovative piggeries, How Now using artificial insemination to only produce female calves, reducing the number of male offspring sent to slaughter. We think progressive farming practices need to be communicated and consumers given an opportunity to select. Katherines great grandparents had a mink furrier business and as history tells us this industry was extremely bad at responding to societal queues and as a result no longer exists. The article is attempting to drawing attention to the need to engage to move forward.

08.01.2022 Katherine Teh-White in The Australian - The animal activists are certainly calling for an end to it, and if the argument for (its continuation) is that we have the best animal welfare standards and then we watch 60 Minutes, the average Australian would rightly say the industry has lost its right to operate. When you have footage like this, it is indefensible for the industry to say we have the worlds best practices and will fix any glitches. It is not an appropriate shield to hide behind."
