25.01.2022 You can run but you are only going to die tired. This large feral cat thought he had avoided the white light that picked him up. He was wrong. Thermal changes the game for feral predator control. #fvrcontracting #shooting #feralcat #conservation #nature #earth #hunting #biodiversity #queensland

25.01.2022 Myf is doing a great job putting her sensitive Collie nose to use. She’s had lots of practice on the current program and us now thoroughly convinced she is a ‘cat dog’. #fvrcontracting #workingdog #dog #bordercollie #conservation #feralcats #nature

25.01.2022 These are the new( ish) Leupold ‘Tracer’ protective glasses. Ballistic rated and with three lense options ( tan/ polarised, yellow and clear). Nice and light and they fit well under a headset. Actually quite surprised by the optical quality on the carbonate lens and also quite a fan of the yellow lens given the clarity and contrast it provides. These are worth a look. #fvrcontracting #shooting #aerialshooting #glasses #safetyglasses #ballisticglasses #eye #eyesafety #safety #pewpew

23.01.2022 Wedgetail Industries WT15 in 223 Rem. Perfect solution to a multiple cat problem. The ability to have a platform that enables fast and accurate shooting is the difference between ‘getting a couple’ or ‘getting them all’. #fvrcontracting #conservation #feralcat #feral #biodiversity #nature #shooting #wedgetailindustries #wt15 #ar15 #hunting #pewpew #223

23.01.2022 Early in the morning with a feral cat on a hot rock. Positively identified this one with white light as a cat prior to engaging as it was hard to tell with the two heat profiles pretty close. You often see them soaking up heat on rocks in the early morning. #fvrcontracting #shooting #feralcat #conservation #nature #australia

23.01.2022 A picture tells a thousand words. I love doing what I do but I love it just that little bit more when you come across direct evidence of success. Nothing like seeing the ground sign of multiple sea turtle nests hatchlings making a clean getaway. Certainly makes the hours and km worthwhile. #fvrcontracting #conservation #seaturtle #turtle #nature #beach #ocean #hatchling #purpose

22.01.2022 Came in hot on this big fella this afternoon. One of the bigger crocs ive seen in recent times. #fvrcontracting #crocodile #shooting #aerialshooting #nature #conservation

22.01.2022 Unusual colours on this large feral cat. Myf did well locating him in some heavy cover. #fvrcontracting #conservation #wildlife #nature #biodiversity #shooting #hunting #feralcat #feralcats

22.01.2022 The Wedgetail Industries WT25 in .308 coupled with an XP50 Pulsar Trail made short work of these 6 beach raiding hogs. Good gear makes the difference. #fvrcontracting #beach #conservation #turtle #biodiversity #shooting #thermal #pulsar #xp50 #trail #308

21.01.2022 With 190mm of rain in the gauge and more to come, it’s been time to hit the reloading bench. Given the pace of the back end of 2020 its an area i have neglected over the last 6 months in preference for the convenience and time saving of factory ammo. With some time available now its into the 44 mag first followed by the 65s and then we’ll see where we go from there. Loving the hollow point on the 240 Gr Hornady XTP in 44. Versatile enough in terms of impact velocity to be useful in both the rifle and revolver. #fvrcontracting #shooting #reloading #44 #44magnum #ruger #marlin #blackhawk #hornady #xtp #nosler #rcbs #guns #revolver #rifle #levergun

21.01.2022 With a high illumination level it gets alot harder to get close to cats. A longer shot here on a cat that chose its perch poorly. #fvrcontracting #conservation #shooting #nature #thermal #feralcats #feralcat #biodiversity

21.01.2022 Currently working on a wild dog control program in remote West Qld. A few feral pigs cleaned up while surveying ground sign provided the perfect opportunity to lay a long range scent trail to recently set up soft catch trap sites. Its not rocket science but every little advantage is worth utilising #fvrcontracting #trapping #shooting #conservation #cattlecountry #nature #feralanimal

19.01.2022 The little marlin CSBL 44 rem mag lever gun. Recently acquired to replace a similar lever gun that failed to maintain the required levels of accuracy or consistency. First round out of this rifle hit centre of seen mass off hand on a steel plate at 40 m with unadjusted open sights. As Townsend Whelen once wrote- ‘only accurate rifles are interesting’. This little unit will soon have an aimpoint H2 mounted and will see duty as a general carry feral pig rifle. #fvrcontracting #44magnum #marlin #marlinrifles #shooting #hunting #rifle #csbl #levergun #stainlesssteel #accurate

18.01.2022 This boar was observed at distance on the beach. Whilst the wind was dicey I managed to get in front of his intended route and destroyed him before he hit the bush edge. #fvrcontracting #conservation #hunting #nature #beach #ocean #seaturtle

17.01.2022 A little bit of scenery from the office today. As always, the Wedgetail Industries WT25 provided a nice balance of portable, lethal, reliable and accurate. #fvrcontracting #shooting #hunting #aerialshooting #conservation #nature

17.01.2022 A few more feral predators humanely removed. Myf (the conservation working dog) is doing well with each humanely destroyed cat being used to test her nose and hone her skills. #fvrcontracting #nature #wildlife #conservation #dog #workingdogsaustralia #workingdogs #bordercollie #feralcats #feralcat #biodiversity

16.01.2022 A few photos of wild dogs during the current program. It’s been a busy few days but the results are starting to roll in. Lots of hours and km each day when soft catch trapping with animal welfare the highest priority. #fvrcontracting #trapping #conservation #nature #wilddog

16.01.2022 For anyone interested, these are the colour palette options available on the Pulsar Axion Xq38. Ill likely do a bit of a desktop review of the unit in the coming days. Its a great bit of kit that fits very well in the niche of lightweight handheld thermal spotter. #fvrcontracting #thermal #pulsar #axion #axionxq38 #night #nighthunting #hunting #shooting #seeinthedark

16.01.2022 Great to see Fred has made a full recovery and is now part of the unique furniture at AWC Picaninny Plains.

15.01.2022 Heaps of emus round at the moment. Good to see the natives doing well. #fvrcontracting #native #emu #conservation

15.01.2022 This fair lump of feral tom cat was identified in an area that normally isn’t particularly ’catty’. Predictably, whilst it was quick and humane, it didn’t pan out that well for him. #fvrcontracting #hunting #shooting #wedgetailindustries #thermal #conservation #conservationinaction #sendit #feralcat #biodiversity

15.01.2022 This is Myf. She is one of three working dogs utilised by FVR on conservation programs where the use of a ‘conservation working dog’ is suitable to the clients needs. On the current program she is being utilised to track feral cats - she wears both a tracking collar and a remote training collar so does not interact with the cat other than locating it or assisting to find the cat after humane destruction in heavier cover. The use of a working dog significantly enhances the results on these sorts of programs. #fvrcontracting #workingdog #dog #bordercollie #nature #conservation #biodiversity #landcruiser #menacreekcollies

14.01.2022 Had a first last night. This large male feral cat was picked up on the verge of a track and destroyed. On inspection of the cat it was noted he was in the middle of a meal which turned out to be a kitten. Not a scenario I have come across before and reminiscent of African big cats that will kill cubs they didn’t sire. In this particular case i just think the big fella was hungry as the feral cats out here appear to be doing it hard with some odd stomach content being found. #fvrcontracting #conservation #shooting #hunting #thermal #biodiversity #nature #cateatcat #hungry #predator #predatorhunting #wildlife #australia #natureismetal

14.01.2022 The joys of your own purpose built rifle range on your block. Regular practice, kit testing and compliance testing of equipment. Today the zero and dial up on the 65 Creed were tested to confirm all is good for an upcoming pig job where the ranges are anticipated to be a little further out than normal. #fvrcontracting #shooting #65 #65creedmoor #rifle #boltgun #boltaction #sendit #bergara #bergararifles #bushnell #bushnelloptics #bushnellelite

13.01.2022 The first 10 mins were fairly hectic. The Brocock Commander PCP air rifle continues to perform very consistently and accurately. Ideal for niche urban feral pigeon control shooting indoors. #fvrcontracting #shooting #rifle #airrifle #brocock #brocockcommander #feral #feralpigeon #airgun #urban #precision #precisionshooting

13.01.2022 Ive put up an Anzac day post every year since I started FVR- this year I managed to find a few older photos from the days when backs and knees etc weren’t so sore- 20 years of grunt work will get you there. I hope you all have the opportunity to take a moment this year and reflect on our culture and identity as a nation as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in days past. It’ll be a quiet one at my end given a requirement to reset given a hectic last few weeks but i’ll still take the opportunity to have a quiet beer and give the day its proper dues at some point. I’ll end this up with a little poignant quote- ‘ if you can read this, then you should thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, you should thank a soldier.’ Lest We Forget.

11.01.2022 High humidity decreases the performance of thermal however this feral cat is very much still easily identifiable hiding behind light grass cover at approximately 70-80m. #fvrcontracting #shooting #feralcatsofinstagram #feral #feralcat #feralcats #hunting #223 #ar15 #wedgetailindustries #nature #thermal #conservation #biodiversity

11.01.2022 The XP50 LRF trail next to the current recently acquired XP50 trail 2 LRF. The new model is longer although ergonomically very similar with button placement. A broader mag range (2-16 Vs 1.6-12.8) and a fully coloured Amoled display vs black and white. Some slightly different reticle options including coloured reticles. Lots more info coming on the new optic over the coming weeks as it gets thoroughly tested in the field. #fvrcontracting #thermal #pulsar #shooting #nature #conservation #trail2 #xp50

09.01.2022 The collies enthusiastically bailing and posing with a destroyed feral pig they had nothing to do with . Still, you have to give them points for style. #fvrcontracting #conservation #nature #bordercollie #dog #workingdog #garmin

09.01.2022 Sometimes they just like to pose on a rock for you. Very photogenic. #fvrcontracting #conservation #wildlifeconservation #beach #beachlife #crocodile #queensland #ocean #sea #creek #swamp #snappinghandbag

08.01.2022 Its a nice change when they are sitting out in the open with no real cover in the way. #fvrcontracting #shooting #conservation #nature #feralcat #feralcats #biodiversity #hunting #thermal

06.01.2022 This beach raider almost made it off the beach. He pulled up inside a treeline thinking he’d made it however the pulsar trail xp50 thermal put an end to that idea. Thermal literally changes the game for anyone serious about vertebrate pest management. #fvrcontracting #thermal #beach #ocean #nature #conservation #biodiversity #shooting #hunting #pulsar #nighthunter

06.01.2022 Awesome to see this much water around at this time of the year. Unfortunately not very conducive to effective wild dog control so the current program was finished up a little early. #fvrcontracting #trapping #weather #nature #bush #rain #damp

05.01.2022 Its still pretty dry out in the West. Almost a wrap on 2020 works. One more job to go.

05.01.2022 The Wedgetail Wt25. The rifle you carry when you need the job done fast and accurately. Seeing a fair bit of service on feral pigs and wild dogs on the current job. Most of the dogs have not been worthy of social media posting given the immense damage caused by fast moving 130 gr hp. Very effective and humane. #fvrcontracting #shooting #wedgetailindustries #conservation #hunting #308 #rifle

04.01.2022 Great to see dogs being utilised in a broad range of conservation roles. The FVR working dogs are coming along nicely with lots of experience gained over the last couple of weeks.

02.01.2022 Another interesting night on remote beaches and great to see a heap of fresh turtle hatchlings tracks showing they made a clean getaway. #fvrcontracting #conservation #beach #hatchling #turtle #turtles

02.01.2022 Fire throws some pretty spectacular colours through the trees. Quite a bit of late season burning occurring currently keeps the landscape interesting at night. #fvrcontracting #fire #bush #outbush #conservation #nature

02.01.2022 @huntsman_aus - nailed it. One of my favourite lines. Everyone wants to be Infantry till its time to do Infantry things. Happy birthday to the RAR. Duty First. #royalaustralianregiment #infantry

02.01.2022 Another big night on the beaches with a solid mix of turtle hatchlings making it safely to the sea and turtles still coming in to lay. Great to see #fvrcontracting #turtle #nesting #sea #ocean #beach #conservation #nature #hatchling
