18.01.2022 When Aviation Report visited Wangaratta Aerodrome on a fine Autumn day for the Historic Motor Show & Fly In, we saw a fine attendance of vintage and warbird air...craft. The FW-190 has not been a familiar type in this country until recently - with Chris Mayr's FW190A-8 VH-WLF, Werk-Nummer 173056 "RED 1"- a replica based on parts including off a 1944 A-8 which carried that identity. Made with perhaps 10% original parts it is fitted with a Russian Ash-82T, licence-built in China, a 14-cylinder twin-row radial comparable in power to the original power plant of around 1,900 horsepower, with engine capacity of 41 litres. Built up by Flugwerk in Germany, it bears the colour scheme and markings of Luftwaffe ace Hans Dortenmann, a 38-aircraft ace fighter pilot of the WWII Luftwaffe.
