22.01.2022 Team EdiFlyers continue to make fantastic progress on the Van’s Aircraft RV-12IS The lower Fuselage is now finished and the students will now focus on installing the fuel systems and flight control systems.

21.01.2022 The Flight Youth Engineering (FYE) initiative will be based at the Redcliffe Airport and will be launched in February 2020. Mueller College and St Columbans C...ollege will be among the first schools to participate in this exciting project. FYE is a not-for-profit organisation which focuses on Aerospace careers and employment by engaging and motivating high school students. After participating in this project over a 2-year period the students will have built an aircraft and have gained their pilots licence - imagine that at the top of your Resume on leaving Year 12. Redcliffe Airport is an important asset to our community and a number of community projects and services operate out of our Airport. FYE lays the groundwork for a sustainable future in an industry that delivers so much economic benefit to the Moreton Bay region and the Aviation Community at large. http://FYE.ORG.au

We at Flight Youth Engineering are loving their new uniforms this is going to be a fun and rewarding experience for both Students and Mentors alike. #flightchallenge #flighttraining #brisbane #studentlife #students #aircraftmaintenanceengineer #aircrafttechnician

17.01.2022 Thanks to the generous support of SAAA Chapter 15 Archerfield who provided us with our very first donation at their December meeting last year. These funds will go towards supporting our very first secondary school based project.

17.01.2022 It has been a very full couple of months for the students of Flight Youth engineering, Two of our students have been doing industry placement with some local Aviation based Companies. A big thank you to Greg and the team at Suncoast Aero Engines where Cameron has had a couple of great days stripping down Lycoming IO-390A Aircraft Engines.... This engine will be going back into a Vans Aircraft RV-14A that Cameron is helping rebuild. https://www.suncoastaeroengines.com.au This hands on experience with professional mentors is priceless for the development of the next generation of Aircraft Engineers.

16.01.2022 St. Columbans college has just completed fundrasing for the tail section of their aircraft and will begin construction soon. We still need your help for the Fuselage and wings please help by donating through our web page. http://raddish.ttecs.com.au/?page_id=415... http://www.stc.qld.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx

13.01.2022 Ever wondered how an aircraft is treated for corrosion? Ediflyers have just finished the lower sub section of the fuselage of their RV-12IS. All components were treated with Alodine 1200 which is a chemical conversion of the outer layer of the Alclad skin. Alodine is a chemical treatment of aluminum to prevent corrosion, it is electrically conductive and can be used as a primer for layers of paint. It does not add weight or changes dimensions of the part that is being treated..., where as paint does. ... The exterior skins have then been coated with Axalta Corrosion Resistant Epoxy Primer. The treatment was completed thanks to the assistance of the very talented team at Flinders Aviation. A big thank you to Mick and Loretta Kelly for your support of this youth project. At Flight Youth Engineering we inspire all our students to have a pride in what they are constructing as such their aircraft are treated with the best options currently available to ensure that the aircraft keeps flying well into the future.

12.01.2022 The second build day for SCA (St. Columbans Aeroclub) with FYE (Flight Youth Engineering). We are getting close to finishing out training kits. These kits are great exposure to Aviation Grade tooling and materials. From the smiles from both Students and Mentors you can see we are all having great fun. A big Thank you to our sponsors for enabling this to happen. #aircraftmaintenanceengineer #flightchallenge #flighttraining #students #aircrafttechnician #brisbane #studentlife #aircraft #kitaircraft #snapontools

12.01.2022 St. Columbans College build update. Our 4th session sees the students well in to the construction of their training tool kits. These kits use a mixture of tools and techniques that will be used in the construction of the aircraft. The Students are super keen with Mentors trying to slow them down to accurately perfect the techniques. #student #studentlife #flightchallenge #kitaircraft #aircraftmaintenanceengineer #flighttraining #aircraft #brisbane #snapontools #students #aircrafttechnician #vansaircraft #QBEinsurance #bursontools #RedcliffeAeroClub

09.01.2022 Meanwhile another of our students has been receiving instruction from the talented team of Flinders Aviation. https://flindersaviation.com.au/ A big thank-you to Michael and Loretta Kelly !... Daniel has been busy prepping and painting brand new aircraft skins for a Vans Aircraft RV-14A that the students are helping re-build.

01.01.2022 We at Flight youth engineering would like to share some exciting news. Snap-on Tools have delivered a roll cab tool box containing many of the tools required for St Columbans College students to begin the build of their aircraft. The first shipment from Vans Aircraft in Oregon, USA has arrived. This large box contains the training kits, the empennage (tail section), the complete aircraft plans and all the components required to successfully compete the empennage. Each stude...nt will complete three training kit projects which will help learn the skills required to build the Vans RV-12is Aircraft The ediflyers have just completed their empennage, check out their latest update at https://fye.org.au/?page_id=447 They now move onto the fuselage (body) of their aircraft. St Columbans have been busily preparing their hanger workshop area on their school grounds for this exciting project to begin. Stay safe, stay healthy, be kind and look after each other in these unusual circumstances we find ourselves in. As Australians we will arrive at the tail end of this crisis as quickly as it has begun leaving us stronger, wiser, better prepared and equipped for the future. See more
