21.01.2022 Let's get some positives out of this awful Covid-19 situation and assist those wonderful researchers with their studies! If you are interested in participating in a study examining the rate of cat and dog adoption and relinquishment during the pandemic please contact Dr Grace Carroll [email protected] or Dr Catherine Reeve [email protected] of Queens University Belfast in the UK. They will provide you with the tools required to compile the data and will support you in the p...rocess. There is also a short survey included in the study. The researchers hope that the results will help us understand how companion animal adoption and relinquishment has been affected by the pandemic, and what animal shelters/rehoming organisations need to function optimally during this time.

12.01.2022 Is it really fair to expect people to make life changing decisions in an instant? As a sector we certainly use that thinking when encouraging people to not buy from pet shops (impulse buying anyone?!) but essentially that is what we do in our shelters and rescues. Adding four legged family members to the existing population can be difficult. Particularly if the adopter has other pets/species/unique situations in their home. And who doesn't?? As shelter or rescue workers, how ...many of you have had a pet come into your home and then taken it back to work and suggested another of your colleagues would be a better match for it? Whatever we call it - foster to adopt, trial adoption or something else, we should embrace the strategy as being the right and fair thing for all involved. https://www.animalsheltering.org/blog/all-good-time

The results of the present study are consistent with previous research and illustrate the amenability of RTF and TNR programs to customization based upon the needs and resources of a given community." https://bit.ly/2FuHpKW

02.01.2022 Emergency accomodation services for DV victims and the homeless community have been around for some time and usually look like the pet being taken into care into a shelter or boarding facility (sometimes into a foster home). What about if we put our efforts into partnering with a human services organisation to enhance their service capacity to help them house the pets as well and keep them with their carers? Here is a great article looking at the issue:... https://faunalytics.org/how-co-sheltering-improve-shelter-/

02.01.2022 Everyone has the right to feel the love of an animal, says Corey Roscoe, HSUS Ohio state director. Animal welfare too often assumes that income equates to love and compassion. That’s such a false judgment. You hear about people who will skimp on their own food to get the dog’s food. Read about an impactful and well utilised, store-front, outreach program located in Cleveland USA. Thanks to Animal Sheltering https://www.animalsheltering.org/mag/articles/good-neighbor
