25.01.2022 Three year old syntropic citrus row Life begets life and so on... #regenerativeagriculture #syntropic
24.01.2022 A clip I made this morning about senescence
24.01.2022 Heading to Sydney to plant agroforestry, loaded with trees and cuttings
22.01.2022 Not an unusual cut when pruning syntropic agroforestry
21.01.2022 The low strata wampi needs a lot of care when planted in a new system, and who better to care for it than the cassava. There is also a castor oil seed to germin...ate in with the wampi to take the emergent position and rise up above the cassava, also a black turtle bean seed is there to take the medium strata before the cassava occupies that zone. Much later, the Brazilian fern tree, which is also planted in the same hole will rise above all and stand guard, while it's deep tap root opens the soil below. All of these supporting plants give life to the soil and make preparations for the wampi to thrive See more
19.01.2022 What does "regenerative" mean after it becomes a buzzword? I think that it is important for the community to know, and ask suppliers the hard questions
19.01.2022 Hey! Women! Do you love growing food? Do you want to run a market garden? Are you into growing fruit trees or timber? Syntropic Agroforestry is the Next Generat...ion of Food Forests and this course will show you how agroforestry grows food that optimises ecosystem health and provides calculable yields. In this Introduction to Syntropy Course women will have the opportunity to learn, discuss and share ideas about the fundamental concepts of this type of agroforestry. Led by Gudrun Gotsch, the course will include theory of succession, strata and lifecycle of plants and how to design and manage consortia for maximum yield and optimal system health, which will be taken into the field and applied at Gabalah Syntropic Farm. In Gudrun’s words, Do you like working with the land? How about Agroforestry? You think using tools is masculine work? Let’s learn how to handle the different tools in our very own feminine masculine way. You ever turned on a chainsaw? Sharpened it? Cut wood with it? Chopped down a tree? How about hoes and machetes? Learn with my experience and face your fears to be able to live your dreams Tania Bruin from Summit Organics will also lead a circle discussion. Tania is co-owner of Summit Organics. They have been farming organically on their farm in Tyalgum for over 25 years. They have a successful business with 4 local markets a week ranging from the gold coast to Mullumbimby, also supplying a few local restaurants and local organic stores. Tania would love to share her stories on what it takes to be a successful farmer and share ideas for a brighter future in farming. Tania would love to invite you into open heartfelt conversation regarding what women have to often face in our farming system and what it takes to farm with nature and stay connected. The Course will take place at Gabalah, 20 minutes from Murwillumbah, Australia. Meals are provided, camping is available with toilet and shower. Bring your machete, work gear, water bottle and all items required for a stay on a farm For alternative accommodation, there are some close options at a reasonable budget, please get in touch for info [email protected] For bookings follow this link https://women-s-syntropic-agroforestry-workshop.lilregie.co Hope to see you here!

18.01.2022 All plants are useful in a system driven by ecology Syntropy
16.01.2022 Mid winter pic of block 3. Oats germinating after cutting back the guinea grass and Swiss chard on the understory. Papaya and ginger showing frost damage from t...he odd cold snap, bananas also. Citrus loving the weather and rain. Many new tree species are emerging as succession moves up and life increases Finding that nurturing agroforestry systems into a healthy balanced macro organism is very satisfying in a troubled world. I can see the potential for this everywhere I Iook, but mostly in people
16.01.2022 Tip for the best mangos. Leave as long as possible on the tree, when it's time to pick, pick it like you would an apple, leaving the stem on the fruit - there i...s a natural parting where the stem attaches to the tree. When this is allowed, the join between the stem and the fruit remain intact, which keeps in the sap, which would otherwise spray out. When the fruit is proper ripe and ready to eat, the stem naturally falls off by itself. All of the goodness in the sap remains in the fruit and so does the extra mangoey flavour. The difference is very noticeable See more
16.01.2022 How to manage Cenchrus Purpureus in Syntropic Agroforestry Its a fantastic plant!
12.01.2022 Gudrun Götsch is coming to Australia to share her knowledge and give her support to the growing interest and practice of agroforestry We have an opportunity to ...grow, diversify and give more strength to agroecology by learning more about the follow on value that can be derived from the highly productive agroforestry. What we can learn in this course are ways to get the most out of the very high quality nutrition that comes from these systems We are particularly interested in learning ways to ferment and preserve staple foods like cassava, taro and corn to spread out the yields throughout the year to smooth out famines and gluts An accomplished agroforester and entrepreneur with preserving the bounty of agroforestry for the enjoyment of many, Gudrun brings her skills and passions from growing and processing in Bahia, Brazil to our agroforestry system here at Gabalah Come and meet other people who want to get involved in positive hands on solutions and become part of the growing and diverse agroforestry community! 11.01.2022 The most important part of syntropic agroforestry - species succession
09.01.2022 Picking has the same effect as a pruning cycle We must cut the annuals out so they don't resprout and succession can continue forward
09.01.2022 First syntropic system in Australia, September 2016
08.01.2022 We're hosting Gudrun Gotsch at Gabalah Oct 11-13 to teach agroforestry to women. As a syntropic farmer of three years I can attest to the fact that we are sorely missing the feminine in this exciting new space. This agroforestry is a transformative tool for the positive changes we need to make in this world. A confirming indicator is that very inclusive and holistic nature of good agroforestry practice yearns for the insight, intuition and feminine wisdom, instead of a more conquest based industrial agriculture model. The only way we can heal damage done to our ecosystem is to repair, love and nurture We have made this course as affordable as possible to give the widest range of access Please share!
07.01.2022 Hayley giving us a tour of Gabalah
07.01.2022 Farms of the future with Scott Hall, it’s been a steep learning curve to get my head around this but by doing it can be done.
07.01.2022 Going well despite drought conditions. Not digging and keeping the soil covered with plenty of biomass, a lot of living energy and diverse strata is the key. This is our ginger alley crop in between mandarin and navel orange consortia. There is a a nurse crop of zucchini over the ginger and fractional planting of silverbeet, and panicum maximum for biomass beside
05.01.2022 Teaching agroforestry to an amazing group of people from diverse backgrounds with a common goal to regenerate life and diversity. I can see a lot of good things happening as a result of the actions of this group. Very pleased to share agroforestry with them so they can add it to their skill set
04.01.2022 Check out how we can farm with very minimal water This example here has had ZERO irrigation or rain, just soil humidity It was an unplanned experiment at Gabalah and has given us one of our best insights yet
03.01.2022 Selecting new local species to go into the syntropic seed bank
03.01.2022 The new syntropic annual production format coming together. This is where savanna/forest ecology meet using edge dynamics. The vegetables form part of the conso...rtium as a result of a disturbance dynamic with the main part of the consortium being the perennial biomass. This is kind of inverse but constant with the principles of syntropic agroforestry. We are getting much more fluid these days #agroforestry #agroflorestal #syntropicagriculture #regenerativeagriculture #carboncapture #gabalahfarm #agroecology #community #coverthesoil #foodforest #forestgarden #gabalahsyntropicfarm #marketgarden
03.01.2022 A great learning curve taken on the insights of Syntropic Ag with Scott Hall also a really big thankyou to Mark Berndt for his insights into how Afro-forestry works from a soil biology view point.
02.01.2022 Syntropic agrosilvopasture!! We will be sharing an open consultation in Booyong My aim for consultation and knowledge sharing is to do so on a peer to peer ba...sis - as farmers As part of our ethic of farmers working together, I like to open consultations to others who may be interested and relate to the context. This creates the conditions for a supportive network and shares the costs - mutual benefit is the goal The context of the consultation is a grazing initiative, where another layer is required in order to boost productivity, income, diversity, stacked longer term yields and shorter term income while growing cattle This is a thoroughly regenerative initiative, where the silvopasture is driven by today's sunshine - increasing margins and ecological complexity This is a very good opportunity for graziers and holistic managers to gain insight into what syntropic agriculture is all about, and to consider a complimentary enterprise, particularly if more than herd numbers are needed to generate income This Saturday, 2 Pearce road Booyong 8:30 50 per attendee as a contribution to sharing a real consultation and practical insight Just turn up or contact me through messenger for more info
02.01.2022 Drop in to Zest fruit shed on the north side of town for some local regenerative produce! This week there is a special on Yin Choy - AKA Chinese spinach. Just $3 per bunch, healthy for you, the planet and very affordable! Yin Choy is an excellent cooking green, just run a knife through the bunch and cook however you like your greens. I love it sauteed and served with eggs. It has a very creamy texture and a mild earthy flavour. Yin Choy is very nutritious, especially grown t...he way this has been - syntropic agroforestry Amelia at Zest is someone well worth supporting, as she focuses on local regenerative, organic and spray free produce that is climate appropriate, has low food miles, is very fresh and the money stays in the community, making ethical and regenerative practices more viable Keep an eye out for our 100% regenerative A grade zucchinis as well!
01.01.2022 Gustavo and Toby transplanting seedlings in a syntropic system. We always take a professional approach towards agroforestry and treat it like any other type of production farming. Using correct technique Toby plants out a tray of 198 seedlings in about 20 minutes, about 6 seconds per seedling. Having this approach ensures that agroforestry can move it's way into mainstream agriculture. Toby is leading Gustavo and demonstrating how it's done
