06.01.2022 *** TSRA Celebrates Mabo Day 2020 *** Each year on 3 June, we celebrate Mabo Day and the memory of the late Mr Eddie Koiki Mabo. We pay homage to the families of Mer (Murray Island) who fought for the successful High Court decision in 1992 to legally recognise the rights of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal peoples as the traditional owners of their land. Mabo Day is a powerful reminder of how the First Peoples of Australia have struggled for recognition of their rights ...and continue to be an inspiration for Indigenous Peoples worldwide. The TSRA offices will be closed as the communities of the Torres Strait Islands celebrate the Mabo Day special holiday.
