25.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - GIRRINGUN AGM CANCELLATION
25.01.2022 We wanted to make this opportunity to highlight some of the great local businesses we have had the privilege of working with for a number of years. Theres neve...r been a more important time to shop local and support the amazing makers in our community! The packaging we created for Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre was spotted in the Gympie Regional Gallery recently. You can buy their gorgeous collection of tea towels, totes, scarves, paintings, woven baskets or Bagu from the Gallery or from the Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre in Cardwell Qld. (Swipe for pics) They also sell charcoal soap... which might just come in handy! When we are allowed to head out again and go for a road trip, Far North Queensland is on the cards! For now, if youd like to support some local artists SHOP ONLINE... http://art.girringun.com.au/art-shop/ TIP: click on Select Artist in the drop down menu to browse each collection! We adore Daniel Beerons tote, and Neisha already has Ethel Murrays Kingfisher Design tea towel in her kitchen. So many beautiful and unique pieces all made by members of the indigenous community... Supporting the Nywaigi, Gugu Badhun, Warrgamay, Warungnu, Bandjin, Girramay, Gulgnay, Jirrbal & Djiru people. 23.01.2022 Did you see "Australian Story" on the ABC last night? Based in Far North Queensland, and featuring plenty of locals including Victor Steffensen and Terrain NRM ...Board member Barry Hunter, it takes a look at indigenous fire management and how demand for cultural burning knowledge has increased since Australias devastating bushfires. "Fire is beautiful. Its just like water; it trickles through the landscape and the right fire protects the trees and it brings food and encourages new life. It is a gentler technique and it takes a lot more time to apply because the fire is slower." - Victor Steffensen Check this episode of Australian Story out here: https://www.abc.net.au/aus/fighting-fire-with-fire/12134242 Girringun Aboriginal Corporation Djunbunji Land & Sea Program Mamu / Ma:mu - Rainforest Aboriginal people Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation Minjil Yidinji Cultural Services Abriculture #culturalburning #fire Country Needs People
