21.01.2022 Grafting can be is a useful skill that we recommend to any gardener who loves their fruit trees. There are many different techniques, some for summer and some for winter. They’re all based on the same theory. You can grow multi grafted trees that produce several varieties of fruit on one tree- how cool is that for a space challenged area!! Enjoy https://growgreatfruit.com/grafting-fruit-trees/

20.01.2022 Remember Amanda’s wicking beds? Well here is a little project the Dream Green Team have been working on at her place, a FOOD FOREST!! A food forest is a edible area that replicates nature’s natural forest system. In any forest there are 7 types of vegetation, Canopy Trees, Lower Trees, Shrubs, Herbs, creepers/vines, grasses and roots. A food forest just uses specially selected food varieties to replicate mother nature’s amazingly awesome ways. This food forest is just in the... initial stages, with some beautiful canopy trees and ground covers in, heaps of herbs and edible natives! We have zoned the areas we have a Tropical, Stone Fruit, Native and Mediterranean all packed into this one space. We just can’t wait to watch the progress as this one grows up. What do you think of this amazing food forest??

19.01.2022 Plant Damage and diagnostics; Thrips: In the past few weeks, on our Garden Doctor Consultation service, Carla has seen quite a few plants with severe Thrip damage. These tiny little sucking insects can be found on many plants, especially loving tomato and Capsicums. Also noted on several hedges including this Agonis, the damage is bad and has almost cost the hedge.... Treatment: Soil Heath is the first thing to address. Just like us humans if we have lots of care and nutrients we can ward off attacks from bugs and viruses, plants are no different and need good healthy soil in order to flourish. Thrips biological control is ladybugs and Lacewings so spraying is 100% a last resort, you want the good guys to come in and do the work for you! If you must spray use something like pure organic neem oil, home made white oil will also work. Do you have a sick plant, garden or tree? Our team of qualified horticulturalists can come and help you with organic environmentally friendly solutions for your garden. #savethebees

16.01.2022 How to Keep Caterpillars Out of Your Garden You will need: Molasses... Water Dishwashing Detergent Dissolve molasses into water, add a squirt of dishwashing Detergent, then spray on the tops and bottoms of your leaves. Molasses is very good for building up microbes in the soil and caterpillars hate the taste so it’s a great organic remedy for you to use at this time of year when caterpillars are rampant!

15.01.2022 Progress update from Simon and Mary Ann We just thought we’d drop you a line to share with you our progress. All the beds now seem to be flourishing. As you suggested we replaced some of the plants in large bed that was struggling and they and the ones that remained have now all kicked into gear. We have been regularly picking silverbeet, rocket, purple beans, snow peas and spinach (in fact we have had so much we have been sharing it with friends which is exactly what we w...ant to be able to do!!!!). We did a fairly large harvest today and pulled all the rocket, which had bolted, a couple of the spinach that had done the same, the beetroot that was ready, and one tromboncino zucchini. We’ve attached a few photo’s to show you how we are getting along. We have planted some new beetroot (heritage variety from the diggers club which we’ve joined) rocket, baby spinach and are experimenting with cos lettuce, mazuma lettuce and radicchio. As you can probably tell we are really happy with everything and are loving to be able to begin to feed ourselves and others with organically home grown produce and are looking forward to when the tomatoes, pumpkin, cucumbers and everything else begin to ripen!!! Once again thank you and your team for your expertise and effort in setting us on this path to good food, ethically grown!!
