25.01.2022 Rituals are timeless.
24.01.2022 "...in Dagara life, the first few years of a child's life is spent with the grandparents, not the parents. What the grandparents and grandchildren share togethe...r ... that the parents do not ... is their close proximity to the cosmos. Grandparents will soon return to where the grandchildren came from, so therefore the grandchild is the bearer of news the grandparents need. The grandparents must get this information before the child forgets." ~ Malidoma Some, Of Water and the Spirit: Ritual, Magic and Initiation in the Life of an African Shaman See more

18.01.2022 "One of the most important uses of Nüshu came as a result of marriage. Traditionally, after a wedding, the bride would leave her parents’ home and move into the home of the groom. The bride would often feel isolated in her new role, so Nüshu provided a means for women to express sadness and lament broken friendships among one another."
18.01.2022 In the Lakota-Sioux tradition, a person who is grieving is considered most wakan, most holy. There's a sense that when someone is struck by the sudden lightning... of loss, he or she stands on the threshold of the spirit world. The prayers of those who grieve are considered especially strong, and it is proper to ask them for their help. You might recall what it's like to be with someone who has grieved deeply. The person has no layer of protection, nothing left to defend. The mystery is looking out through that person's eyes. For the time being, he or she has accepted the reality of loss and has stopped clinging to the past or grasping at the future. In the groundless openness of sorrow, there is a wholeness of presence and a deep natural wisdom. Tara Brach, Author of Radical Acceptance Art | Frank Howell, Lakota-Sioux Artist

10.01.2022 Do you know what you’re having?... Look I get it, other than asking when I am due there isn’t much you can say to a pregnant person. Polite small talk is norm...al and we all know everyone loves a good party. However, can we all take a step back and agree that when you think about it, having big colour coded parties to celebrate an unborn baby’s genitals is just...well..a bit weird really! Guns or Glitter? Tiaras or Trucks? It’s all just nudge-nudge for does your child have a penis or vulva. Then we give these little people whole personalities based on this one thing instead of sitting back and seeing who they truly are. Even when they’re born they might not identify as the sex assigned in that moment! Boy, girl, non-binary or intersex, these little people are all beautiful and special and unique and should be celebrated as such. Smarter people than me have spoken out about gender reveal parties and if you had one and it brought you some joy (especially during lockdown) that’s fine but how about we start throwing book showers or nursery decorating parties or even just big, glorious, random celebrations of new life instead of theming a whole big bash for adults on a baby’s junk! So, without any more waffle about why I present my silly happy send up - the NON GENDER REVEAL PARTY! Enjoy weirdos and feel free to share. 10.01.2022 "Along with her co-researcher E Tory Higgins, Rossignac-Milon developed a questionnaire that measures the extent to which couples experience shared reality. A researcher asks each partner to rate their agreement or disagreement with statements such as, We frequently think of things at the exact same time or Through discussions we often arrive at a joint perspective. Using this method, Rossignac-Milon has found evidence that people who experience more shared reality with their partner also feel more committed to each other. Indeed, on the days when couples experience more of this cognitive merging, they also feel emotionally closer."

05.01.2022 Thanks to Mary Condren for this beautiful Irish blessing by Padraigín Ní Uallacháin, who calls on the goddesses in the old language. thanks Max Dashu for the li...nk. "'Beannú' is the act of blessing or salutation, and the song is a form of appeasement or invocation to nineteen, mainly forgotten, deities and mythological goddesses of pre Christian Ireland. In Ireland rivers, mountains, waves, streams, wells, and sacred sites are named after them, and indeed Ireland is named from Ériú, and her sisters Fódhla and Banba were synonymous with Éire; festivals and rituals, wars and seasonal feasts were once celebrated in their name and great offerings were made in their honour. Some of them were later christianised, such as Brigid - the Great Mother goddess of them all. Time to remember and call them in again. That I should invoke 19 of these female deities during the 2020 pandemic of Covid19, is purely coincidental."
