12.01.2022 This October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month a few of Team Galambila will share their own experiences of Breast Screening. Today we share the very powerful Voice of our Deadly Sue. Please take a few moments to read: "When I was about 10 my Aunty Dulcie (my dad’s sister) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went on to have a mastectomy and then another mastectomy however eight years later this horrid disease claimed her and she passed away. I still vividly remember seein...g her for the very last time and that is a moment that I will never ever forget. I was 18. I had always believed you had to be in your 50’s to have a mammogram so I knew how important this was for me to have this procedure. I also wondered why I had to wait so long especially with a history of cancer in my family, my nan (dad and Aunts mum passed away from stomach cancer too). It wasn’t until I started working at Galambila, and a Breast Cancer Screening health promotion had started, where I was informed I didn’t have to wait until I was in my 50’s. I went on to have my first mammogram in my 40’s. I will admit I was nervous however the lovely lady doing the procedure was so friendly and put me at ease. It hurt a bit but hey I now know I do not have this dreaded disease. I will be forever grateful to Galambila and the Breast Screening Clinic for being informative and supportive through my experience. When I am due for my next one, I will not hesitate to make an appointment and now I advocate to my daughters about how important it is to have this done." Thank you Sue As Sue says, please yarn to your loved ones about the importance of Breast Checks. And a particular reminder of the importance of yarning with your doctor about the best time to start BreastScreening for you, especially if you have a family history of Breast Cancer. Routine invitations are sent from 50 but BreastScreen is available from 40. To book your appointment phone BreastScreen on: 13 20 50 or if you have questions or would like some support please phone Team Galambila 6652 0800 #StrongerTogether #notallheroeswearcapes #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #Voice

12.01.2022 Friday Facts: Missed Appointments - Please phone us if you need to cancel your appointment! Over September we had 245* appointments booked with a doctor that the patient did not attend or cancel. These are sometimes known as 'no shows' As these appointments were not cancelled, we were unable to fill them with other patients in our community that needed to see the doctor. Our doctors could have seen upto an extra 245 of our community in September if those appointment...s had been cancelled in advance. We know that these are unusual times and things change and you may not be able to attend your appointment as planned. We know due to unforseen circumstances we unfortunately have a bit of a delay to have a consult with a doctor at the moment. We ask for your help so we can work together to improve this as much as possible. Please help us so we can help you! Now more than ever we are #StrongerTogether If you have an appointment (via phone or in person) that you find you cant make, please give us a ring to let us know so we can use that appointment for someone else, and make another appointment time for you. We have a waitlist each day. Phone Team Galambila on 6652 0800. Thank you for your help and understanding * 199 appointments 'no shows'. 153 were single and 46 were double appts = 245 single appts. We will share this number on Facebook each month.

11.01.2022 Mums, sistas, aunties, friends .... it’s important you regularly check your breasts for any changes. You’ll need to ‘get to know’ the normal look and feel of your breasts, so that you can spot an unusual change. To check for changes, look at and feel your breasts regularly maybe in the shower or when you are getting dressed. Here are the signs to watch out for If you notice any of these or something that is unusual for you, please phone to make an appointment with your do...ctor without a delay to get them checked out. #Stronger Together #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
