13.01.2022 Two stars sitting in Jackson McLaren's exhibition.
11.01.2022 Some painters are monolithic, they keep chipping away like moles in a tunnel, digging up towards their vision of sunlight, before they burst out into it. This is what Jackson McLaren's work reminded me of. Someone working away, at something he felt and saw within, trying to give it form, colour, even light. As we were cycling to his place for me to see his work in the flesh, he pointed to these two little shacks in a field. In the stream of consciousness that flowed past me on my bike, I had noticed them in that instant too. There was a gallant loneliness about them. Small houses, tiny windows, in a floating world, fixed there, permanent abodes of intent - just like McLaren's images on the the canvass.
