21.01.2022 Artist of the day - Tanya Ashworth https://www.buyartnow.com.au/tanya-ashworth It was in Townsville that my passion for art started. In my high school years my passion for drawing, painting and design became more apparent. My art books reflected the way I felt about my art and how detail plays a very important role in my work. While still at high school I made some pocket money by selling my screen printed t-shirts and tea towels on Sundays at the local Cotters Market. In 199...0 I registered Sarianti Designs as a business and my reputation at the markets as an artist grew with overseas visitors returning year after year to buy my work. The idea for Sarianti Designs was sparked from a costume design created for Dance North Extensions (Townsville). In mid 2000 I decided to concentrate on the business and pursue painting full time. I painted my first major art pieces and started hand painting on ready made ceramics to supply the large local Queensland tourist market. I use digital art, gouache, porcelain paint and acrylic but my preferred medium is acrylic. The three most interesting techniques I enjoy are my blends, playing with depth and light sources. The challenge is to achieve an almost airbrush finish, plus a 3D feel through the use of light sources. 03.01.2022 Artist of the day - Catherine Clark Dowden https://www.buyartnow.com.au/catherine-clark-dowden I was born and grew up on a large farm near Ponteland, in the North of England, surrounded by farm animals, wildlife and open spaces! I emigrated in 1981, Life got busy with finishing school, work, then marriage and children.... We moved to Greenmount, west of Mackay, near to my husband’s home town to give our girls a lovely rural upbringing with lots of animals, horses and open spaces. In 2009 I decided to rekindle my passion for art I studied at Mackay TAFE for a couple of years part time and loved it, being around like minded people and sharing ideas and techniques it was a great time in my life. I reached certificate IV in Visual Arts and I now attend workshops held by accomplished artists throughout each year so I can continue to learn new and exciting ways of being creative. I love to paint animals; I try to capture their beautiful spirit and energy within the image. I like to use texture in my work to help create the movement and drama or magic of the moment. I work in many different mediums pencil, acrylic, inks, mixed media and oil paints. I find art very rewarding; it is challenging and can be very frustrating at times but the more I do the more inspired I become. 02.01.2022 Artist of the day - Roger Clarke https://www.buyartnow.com.au/roger-clarke I fell in love with oil painting at the age of 13, and the rest of my school years was spent honing my craft and the Art Room became my home. At 15 I was courted by the prestigious Slade School and the Cardiff School of Art but I eventually dropped out as I felt I wasn't being given the freedom to paint.... Having spent some time in London as a photographer, I returned to painting on many occasions but life and love sidetracked me in my pursuit of oil painting as a vocation. I moved to Brisbane in 1999, but it wasn't until I suffered a serious back injury in 2017 and having to give up my business, that I found myself needing to start afresh, and once again it was to painting I returned to. Roger Clarke Art was launched in November 2018 and having sold well over 60 paintings in Brisbane, Sydney, the UK and USA, I am becoming further established with both corporate and private commissions and sales. I am the resident artist at Brisbane's New Farm Antique Centre where I paint, exhibit and sell my work to a rapidly increasing client base. I truly feel that the time is right and I'm finally doing what I should be doing.
