24.01.2022 'I remember, when I was very young, hearing about the last Onas. What left an imprint in my mind were the images of the Hain, those mesmerizing images of the bare painted bodies of the Selk'nam Spirits. This was further cemented by the story of their genocide and how their culture is no longer alive and active. The last two Selk'ham women alive who still spoke the language and kept the traditions of their culture that would soon disappear.' Chilean-Australian artist Sol Conta...rdo's solo exhibition 'Te Hosek'en Harw - The Edge of the World' showcases works from her residency in our Ceramics studio over the past year, and her research into the Selk'nam people. This exhibition investigates and challenges the geometric designs of the Bauhaus movement that took inspiration from photographs of the Selk'nam community, indigenous to South America. You can learn more about the exhibtion at an In Conversation Event with artist Sol Contardo and Hema'ny Molina Vargas (president of the Selk'nam Community Covadonga Ona), Saturday 21 November 11:00am. RSVP Here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/126509847359 Image: Sol Contardo, 'Modern Tanu Cloak', Ceramics with stained engobe, 62x50x20cm, $2,000. DM to enquire.

13.01.2022 New work in our Library Sculpture Plinth Warm In The Dark hand silvered glass panels please... ‘Warm In The Dark’ investigates the liminal space between narcissism and self-loathing. The hand silvered glass panels, made specifically for the Gallery Lane Cove plinth, are made via a process reminiscent of 18th century alchemy. These far from perfect mirrors reflect and disillusion both the physical and mental space of their admirers reminding each of us of our own fragile dance with confidence and criticism. These new perspectives provide the public space to consider the value of (self)image in our visually saturated culture. Treat yourself to a stroll down Longueville road and check it out for yourself! You can learn more about Noah's work and our Library Sculpture Plinth using the link below. See more of Noah's work in his current solo exhibition 'I'm Ok (and other lies I tell myself)' now open at Gaffa
