24.01.2022 Our Year 6 students spent some of their time writing letters to our brave soldiers fighting in Artsakh. Through their drawings and words, students expressed their gratitude and respect to the soldiers that are protecting Artsakh and Armenia. The letters were then sent to Artyur Khachents, a recent popular face of the current war who is known for singing the song Kini Lits. He liked the letters on Instagram and agreed to forward them to his comrades. We hope this war will end soon and we will write songs and poems of celebration.
24.01.2022 'Books and Beach Towels' was a superb way to end Book Week 2020. The students enjoyed reading their favourite books outside. Congratulations to the students who won the book report and colouring competitions.
24.01.2022 This term, the Year 10 Commerce students studied a unit on Law and Society. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about how the legal system operates and the aspects involved in the different areas of law. The assessment task for the unit of work required students to undertake research on an issue of their choice which has seen reform with regards to law. The students showcased their findings in an informative report and engaging oral presentation. The images below show some of the students in action during their oral presentation.
23.01.2022 Reception have had a great start to Term 4. In Maths, we are focusing on patterns and we know that patterns repeat! Reception took turns with their peers to create and then continue patterns using whiteboards and a variety of concrete materials. We also created patterns with our body parts and through movement. Reception will also be looking at identifying an error in a pattern.
22.01.2022 Today at Galstaun College, we celebrated Easter and the end of Term One, with a variety of fun Easter activities organised by the SRC, as well as a surprise visit from the Easter bunny himself! To conclude the day’s events, each Secondary class visited their buddy Primary class and together they made bright and creative Easter hats. Not only was this a fun activity for all our students, but it further strengthened the bond between our Seniors and their younger peers. On behalf of all of us at Galstaun College, we wish you a very happy and safe Easter break!

22.01.2022 Galstaun College today donated $65 000 to the #ArtsakhStrong Telethon. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their tireless efforts. In particular the College P&F for their pledge of $25 000 in matching donations which encouraged the school and wider community to donate as well as their efforts in producing the Artsakh t-shirts. We would also like to thank the SRC for their continuous fundraising during the week, as well as our hardworking students and ...entire College Community, who managed to raise the funds this term. A special thank you in particular to our wider community for making donations through the College and supporting our united efforts. Our efforts will not stop here, until our brothers and sisters are fighting for the freedom of our homeland and until we see a free and independent Artsakh, we will continue to fundraise and create awareness everyday, and we encourage the Armenian Australian community to join us. , $65 000 : :
20.01.2022 The library was busy with happy readers on this wet day. Not only did the students stay dry, they had fun while doing so!

16.01.2022 Year 5 took advantage of the beautiful spring weather to complete their reading fluency outdoors. We read the same article across the week to develop our expression. The more fluently someone reads the higher the chance they will be able to comprehend what they are reading. The articles cover a variety of topics and the students love making connections to their own lives and increasing their general knowledge.

13.01.2022 Thank you AYF Australia!
12.01.2022 This term, Year 6 studied a novel titled Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. They focused on language, themes and narrative structure. At the end of the unit, the students were asked to create a picture book that reflected the struggles of the main character and the themes in the novel. The students were enthusiastic and enjoyed every minute of the creative process from identifying a major theme and deciding on a title for their book, to writing their narratives and designing their visuals. The results were outstanding as many of them were able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the novel, ability to create, problem solve, think outside of the box and complete a project independently. There were too many to choose from but the best picture books will be displayed in our school library.
12.01.2022 Galstaun College celebrated National Play Doh Day by incorporating Play Doh into our lessons. Play Doh is known for its fine motor skill development properties but it is also useful in Maths and art. Not to mention- it's fun for all ages! Transition used Play Doh and cutters, as well as their own imagination to create objects. As students are learning about Mass this week in Maths, we hefted to decide which object is lighter and which is heavier. Year 2 used Play Doh shapes t...o explore 'flip, slide and turn'. They discovered that some shapes stay the same while others look backwards and some look upside down depending on what has been done to them. They also realised that the symmetry of the shapes plays a big part in what happens to it. Year 3 used special play dough made by Mrs Davies to create long rolls which were turned into letters to help learn this week's spelling rules.
11.01.2022 As part of our Harmony Day celebrations, Galstaun Infants students read My Positive Coloring Book which outlines the importance of friendships and positive thinking. Our students enjoyed colouring in and having discussions about kindness, well being and inclusiveness. We thank the author, Sanan Malkadjian, and wish her the very best in her future endeavours.
10.01.2022 Galstaun College’s annual Kebab Night is back in full swing! This year, we present to you SKEWERS UNDER THE STARS ... Please see flyer for event details.
09.01.2022 It's Book Week! One of the teacher's favourite times of the year. It's a week to reinforce the importance of reading and to remind us that reading brings enjoyment. Galstaun College is celebrating Book Week 2020 with a virtual incursion on Wednesday. The students will be watching and participating in an online drama which incorporates the shortlisted books for this year's CBCA awards. We've been reading them in class too. On Friday, we've got a great afternoon planned where s...tudents will be able to enjoy some fun in the sun, reading and sharing a favourite book. Students are encouraged to bring in a beach towel, or similar, to sit on and a favourite book to re-read and share. Older students may like to bring in the novel they are reading at home. Non- fiction books are encouraged too. We're sorry the community can't join in this year but we look forward to sharing some photos soon.
08.01.2022 Galstaun College took part in the nation wide R U Ok? Day today. Students and staff swapped one piece of their school uniform for something yellow. There were conversations around the school about the importance of checking-in and asking peers are you okay? High School had active discussions in pastoral about how we can ask, listen and encourage our peers to ensure they are okay, followed by performances from Year 9 & 10 Drama students. We raised almost $400 through the gold coin donations that were brought in. Thank you to all for your support.
08.01.2022 Transition students have shown great effort with their application of sound knowledge this term. They always participate enthusiastically in writing tasks. Most recently, labeling and describing fish to add to our class ocean.
07.01.2022 Since the early 2000’s, Galstaun College has been sending their students on a pilgrimage to Armenia and Artsakh to learn about their ancestral culture, language and history. The Galstaun College community has been in a state of shock for the past 2 months with the news of war and subsequent agreement between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. As we have in the past we will continue to support our brothers and sisters in Armenia and Artsakh and will make this pilgrimage once m...ore. Galstaun College prides itself on being the only Reception to Year 12 everyday Australian Armenian school. The only place in Australia where ~350 people mostly from an Armenian background can congregate, speak and enrich their lives with their ancestral Armenian culture. Here are some of those memories of our students and staff in Armenia and Artsakh. If you have any pictures and stories of your time in Armenia and Artsakh please upload/comment below.

04.01.2022 Primary students participated in an incursion yesterday as part of our Book Week program. The Greatest Discovery was a highly interactive educational incursion where students explored the very best Australian children’s books and the 2020 CBCA Book Week theme: CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS. Book Week in Schools features a selection of the CBCA 2020 Shortlisted Books, encouraging students to engage with reading in an active and energetic manner and reinforcing the idea of inclusiveness and celebration of endeavour rather than competition outcomes.
03.01.2022 Year 8 was tasked with investigating a significant hydrological hazard event as part of their study of Water in the World. The chosen hydrological hazard event was the 2010-2011 Queensland Floods. Students presented their findings in regards to the causes, consequences and responses to the flood, as well as potential management strategies aimed at minimising the future impact of floods.
