24.01.2022 Brumby Festival Oct 14 2018 (less than 3 weeks now!)

23.01.2022 Hi everyone. Yes I went into hibernation as i explored where all my new information and experiences in relation to training, connecting & healing with horses was taking me. Thank you all for sticking around. I have found a place with my herd that I am just so amazed by and want to share with the world. If you were enjoying where my posts on this page were going then please head over to my new page Soul Horse Revolution and give it a like. I aim to share the most up to date,... science based and compassionate ways of training and connecting with horses as well as emotional wellness tips for horse and human. I will also be advertising my upcoming workshops, programs and events on this page. I am now available for Horsemanship coaching from the Bendigo area to Melbourne (I'm currently based near Bendigo), which is where I come out to you and your horse to guide you through your current challenges, giving you the knowledge and skills to confidently work with your horse/s rather than having to send them away for training. I am also developing Medicine Horse programs which are designed to address symptoms of anxiety, depression and overwhelm so please PM me if you want to know more about this. https://www.facebook.com/ValenceWilliams.SHR/

13.01.2022 Our Brumbies...

09.01.2022 This article is doing the rounds again. If you are looking for a trainer or train horses yourself, it's important to know the science of how horses learn. This way you can become aware of ALL the options and choose a method according to this knowledge. Some methods get results...but at what cost? Do the research. It's worth it for you and your horse.

09.01.2022 For many years I have been communicating about my ideas on training horses, both in clinics as on the internet and social media. As a result I became quite expe...rienced in dealing with criticism and opinions ;) This inspired me to write the following article (click the link): www.straightnesstraining.com//mental-dev/agree-to-disagree Agree to disagree

08.01.2022 Hey all! My work with horses is really starting to be seen! I was honored to be interviewed for the Come Along For The Ride podcast with Tracy Malone. In it I speak about how life brought me to where I am now and what i now offer horses and their humans. Head over to the Soul Horse Revolution page to stay in touch. https://www.facebook.com/CAFTRPodcast/videos/1576761615820717/

07.01.2022 In 2008 scientists conducted a study on a group of rescued equine to compare the use of negative reinforcement (used in conventional horse training) to the use ...of positive reinforcement in retraining. The results showed that the horses retrained with positive reinforcement were more willing to participate in training and displayed more explorative behaviours in novel situations. (Innes and Mcbride, 2008) Watch these videos to see the power of positive reinforcement for unhandled horses: https://youtu.be/0I380IKrbKk and for rescued horses: https://youtu.be/cpDbVCRXPf4 What is positive reinforcement? http://www.fairhorsemanship.com//what-is-positive-reinfor/

05.01.2022 Understanding the different ways a horse can learn allows you to make informed decisions when choosing HOW you train them or which trainer you would send them too. Have you been told you are not assertive enough when asking your horse to do something? Guess what...you dont have to be! Check out these different and fun ways to teach...

05.01.2022 Im sharing this for awareness. Tragic accident caused by having a lead rope draped across her shoulder.

05.01.2022 Saving the Victorian brumbies

05.01.2022 Her name was Rue Patron. Then she became pen 95. She started racing at 2 years old. She came last in her second and final race and then 13 days later found he...rself in a sale yard pen still with her racing plates on. At just 3 years old her life was determined to be worth $375. The buyer? A meatworks. Thankfully after learning of her plight concerned bystanders stood in to save her. They raised enough money to buy her at the price her meat would have sold for, and is now safe in a private home. Despite her close call Rue Patron is a lucky one. Sadly this is not the saving grace that all horses receive. As long as the racing industry has no retirement plan, and unscrupulous backyard breeding of all kinds of horses continues, this will not end. We continue to lobby the racing industry to implement a retirement plan for its horses and set a good example for the entire horse industry. Rue Patron should have never ended up in danger in the first place. If you are with us... then share.

05.01.2022 The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. We think we know horses and one day someone comes with an information that ...disrupt our reality. We either put it in a corner of our mind, under a pile of cognitive dissonance, or we put everything we thought we knew in the bin and are left feeling mortified of the things we said and did to horses. We start building back our knowledge. This time looking at it from a more objective and scientific, less anthropomorphism and speciesist point of view. The quote "The more you know, the more you realise how much you don’t know the less you know, the more you think you know." starts making a lot more sense. Our horses start getting the benefits of our newly found appreciation for ethology and learning theory. We also gain a lot in terms of personal development (or at least I did). Because our knowledge rely on scientific evidences rather than our own opinions, we do not attach our ego to the information and are more willing to give it up when new information is presented. This way we always keep learning, always keep on improving our horses lives and our relationships with them. This is the great journey I am on, and your horse would love it if you joined in. For more info on humane, science-based horse training visit: www.fairhorsemanship.com We are running a lecture on horse ethology in June, in Cardiff UK, more details: https://goo.gl/smB9g9
