23.01.2022 Another interesting interview by Ian Henschke last night asking more questions about the coincidence that the winner of the $1M per annum gambling treatment contract is a long time labour party member and aspiring politician who failed to win the seat last year vacated by Bernard Finnigan which was won by Peter Malinauskas, also happens to head the private psychology firm. He points out in the previous interview, that this individual has no track record of actually providing ...treatment for problem gamblers - yet won the contract against Flinders who have 20 years of world recognised treatment and research and patient outcomes. Its at around the half way point if interested. Well post the transcript also a little later as the link has been temperamental. 18.01.2022 Another article in todays Advertiser p4. Numerous questions raised in parliament about the tender process.

16.01.2022 Apologies for the long post, but we have an important announcement. Earlier this year we were surprised to learn that our funding was going to tender for the first time in our 20 year history. In this time we have created a world leading evidence-based treatment and successfully treated over 5,000 people experiencing, or affected by, problem gambling. Much to our disappointment we were unsuccessful in our tender application despite submitting what we considered to be a stro...ng case for retaining our funding. We are seeking further clarification as to how this decision was reached and the impact it will have to clients of our service. The 2015-2016 financial year saw us help more clients achieve their goals than ever before. Our inpatient treatment program is nationally recognised and has received interest from interstate and overseas. The inpatient program, in conjunction with teleconferencing, has enabled us to reach clients in all parts of the state. We have also provided a successful therapy program for remote Indigenous communities, adjusting our treatment to better suit their needs. Statewide Gambling Therapy Service has been uniquely positioned working in collaboration with Flinders University and SA Health. The Gambling Help Service funding has now been allocated to a private organisation who is able to provide services under Medicare, effectively privatising the service and reducing the number of public services available to clients. It has been a privilege to help so many people over the past 20 years and rest assured, we will continue to appeal this decision. Any support would be welcomed please contact your local MP or the AMA (SA branch) if you share our belief that this decision is not in the best interest of people affected by problem gambling.

16.01.2022 Researchers at the University of Technology, Sydney are conducting research to understand barriers to treatment for people in Australia who experience gambling problems that interfere with their daily lives. They also want to know about previous treatment experiences and/or treatment preferences in order to inform best-practice delivery of treatment for people who experience gambling problems. They would be grateful if you could take the time, approximately 20-25 minutes to ...help them increase their understanding of the factors that can get in the way of people receiving the help they need. You are eligible to participate if you are aged 18+, live in Australia and able to read English. If you would like to participate, please click on the link below. Your participation is completely anonymous and will hopefully help shape future policy and treatment delivery. This study is approved by the University of Technology Human Research Ethics Committee. Approval Number: ETH19-3592. https://redcap.research.uts.edu.au/surveys/?s=LCCM94873C See more

03.01.2022 We are starting to see more and more sports gamblers come through our doors. In addition to what is mentioned in this article, our own research found that many people are drawn into this type of gambling by the free or matched bets these companies offer. If you are fortunate enough to win however, you generally have to turn some of that money over by continuing to bet before they will allow you to withdraw any winnings. Just one of the many tricks designed to keep people betting... http://www.adelaidenow.com.au//story-fni6uok5-1227488935811
