08.01.2022 A future research agenda for problem gambling. We are seeking feedback on the priorities for a future research agenda related to the costs of problem gambling. Our suggested research agenda is based on the following three areas: (1) Improving the design and conduct of prevalence studies to create a sound and up to date fact base on the nature and extent of problem gambling, to support decisions... on regulation and treatment services. (2) Better identification of problem gambling prevalence for high-risk groups through screening, to improve treatment outcomes and more effectively target support services. (3) Evaluating the effectiveness of measures designed to reduce harms from gambling, including treatment programs and regulatory measures. What do you think?

06.01.2022 We have now completed the inquiry into the social and economic costs of problem gambling in Victoria. The final report has been presented to the Treasurer. This will be made available on the Commission's website http://bit.ly/GIVCEC when the Treasurer releases it.

The major self-reported causes of bankruptcy in Victoria in 2010...-11 were economic conditions for business bankruptcies, and unemployment and excessive use of credit for non-business bankruptcies. It is worth noting that ‘other causes or causes not stated’ accounted for about 17 per cent of total bankruptcies. However, there are a number of reasons official statistics may be under-reporting the number of bankruptcies caused by gambling or speculation..."
