19.01.2022 Today Richard MacLean, President of IFAF, wrote to nations. Dear nations, Following a Board meeting last week I write to inform you that IFAF will not deliver... either the Flag Football World Championships or the U19 World Championship in 2020. Despite the fact that this is undoubtedly disappointing it was felt that this is a necessary step to take. While we hope that the threat of the COVID-19 virus recedes as the year progresses we recognize that the current disruption it has had and will continue to have. Any championship requires the hosts and attending teams to have a meaningful lead-in time to prepare. With the current uncertainty set to continue this it is not to anyone's benefit to continue to wait. In addition, we recognize that many federations are looking to Summer and to the Fall to complete domestic schedules - something which is business critical for many, and which may be required in order to both select and finance an international program. In terms of the two tournaments we will look to schedule them in 2021. The U19 World Championship will become a U20 event in order to accommodate players who would have potentially become ineligible due to age. We recognize that 2021 is going to be a year where football has an increased number of events on the calendar as a consequence. We will seek to work sympathetically around this to deliver a co-ordinated and cost-sensitive calendar. In regard to Congress we remain committed to hosting the next Congress in the United States. We will explore a number of options with the host nation to give ourselves flexibility for dates later in the year. However, the exact scheduling and confirmation will remain under review in the short term as we react to circumstances. Whilst the postponement of these events is disappointing we want to both reassure players, coaches and staff that they will happen and we also want to ensure that where possible, nations can prioritize their domestic game. 13.01.2022 [COVID-19 UPDATE] An emergency meeting of the GA board executive was held last night to discuss the ongoing escalation of the COVID-19 outbreak and the ever- changing advice and restrictions being placed on group gatherings and travel on a daily basis. The health and welfare of our members is our number one priority and as such feel it necessary to take the difficult step of postponing the Gridiron Australia National Championships which were to be held on the Central Coast of... NSW in May/ June. Whilst the event is still over two months away, and our hope is that the current situation will be significantly improved we felt it was necessary to provide some clarity for state teams and players as they continue their preparations and to ensure they can take the steps they need to assist in the prevention of the spread of the virus without compromising their Nationals campaigns and allow players to take care of themselves and their families. Gridiron Australia will be working with its member states, tournament organisers and venues to secure an alternative date later in the year once we have a revised understanding of the situation from the government and health authorities. We want to thank the member states and players throughout the country for understanding why we have had to make this difficult decision and would encourage everyone to follow the health guidelines which can be found at www.health.gov.au so that we can all assist in the containment of this outbreak. In March 2012, the inaugural Australian Gridiron League (LGL) series launched, with state teams from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia participating. On the back of the success of the LGL, 2012 saw the first full kit Female Gridiron League start in QLD with 3 teams, Victoria were starting scrimmages with the inaugural Western Foxes. In 2013 they travelled to take on the ACT's Tornadoes t...hen an All-Star game against QLD. NSW were preparing in 2012 gaining interest from players to kick off their inaugural seasons in 2013. Now in 2020, we have Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland competitions in full swing, with VIC and WA debuting strong National Campaigns in the 2018 WAGL. #womensgridiron #womenssport
