13.01.2022 Many tears. Congratulations to Samantha Kennedy on the purchase of our beautiful Billy the kid. (Renaissance of Sefton). You are the best home and we cannot wait to continue to watch his future with you.

12.01.2022 Years ago I saw a photo of a can of Coke and the associated teaspoons of sugar per bottle ( I think a 600ml bottle had 12 or 13 teaspoons of sugar ? ) Anyway, I... wanted to try and simulate that graphic visual with typical hay that our horses eat every day. So with the help of Tim at Brigadoon Produce, we weighed a typical bale of oaten hay (24kg) and using an average of 30% sugars I produced the photo seen below. Now obviously there are variations in the weight of bales and the sugar content of the hay - there is some oaten hay that is a lot lower than 30% but there is also some that is a lot higher ( 38% last year ) and lets face it - I’m good at teeth and not math so 30% was easier to work with ! We then weighed a bale of a low sugar meadow hay that they stock there that has a sugar content of around 11% and the results can be seen below. Now the meadow hay bale was lighter ( just over 21kg ) so we are not comparing exactly the same weight of product, but I think the results are obvious. Now look around your hay shed and try and estimate how many bags of sugar you have in there !!! Again - not all meadow is low in sugar so it makes sense to ensure that you are buying from a reputable source which has verifiable test results. Your horses will thank you for it (in the long run ! ) See more

12.01.2022 We had the pleasure of having this little man in our stables for 2 months prepping for HOTY and VASL. Pleasure to have & full of personality. Loved his bush rides & flat work. Such a bargain for a well bred little hunter pony.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Michelle and Raymond Haber and parties with the success with Gandarah Country Road. Reserve champion ENSW large show hunter galloway 2019. Ridden by Emma Adams. Photo credit: LGM PHOTOGRAPHY

07.01.2022 Yesterday I sat on a horse for the first time in 8 weeks. Today I am a little sore under the ribs. I didn’t do much, just walked for about 5 minutes, and a few ...small trot steps. Used my core a bit different than I have been, and I am feeling it. What’s your point? you may be thinking. Well the point is this. Start slow, take your time. Otherwise it hurts more. When your horse has time off, please bring him back into work slowly. Otherwise he hurts more. Allow yourself every chance for a willing partnership. So many horses I see this time of year have owners who want to go out to pony club, or start jumping. The weather is on the improve (finally!) it’s the beginning of the spring competition season and time to get out there and ride. But often their poor horses haven’t had nearly enough preparation. That should have started at least a couple of months ago. It’s been winter, we have had mud, rain, wind, snow, below freezing temperatures. I get it, it’s not fun riding in those conditions. But for the benefit of your horse, if you want to compete in spring, you must. Perhaps you’ll need to ride on safe trails (boring), perhaps you’ll need to transport to an indoor to school (inconvenient) perhaps you’ll plod round a muddy paddock (not ideal, but better than nothing). 8 weeks ago I had 4 horses in work. I was injured, and had enforced time off. Now I need time to regain riding fitness. I only rode a little bit yesterday, and felt perfectly fine while doing so. I stopped well before I started hurting. Even, so, I’m a bit sore now. Tomorrow, I’ll do a little bit again. It’s quite manageable, even though it feels frustratingly slow. Unfortunately horses can’t talk. Their willing nature makes it very easy for us to abuse them. If they haven’t had the long slow conditioning necessary to keep them comfortable for what is demanded of them, please do not expect them to perform well and stay happy and sound.
