21.01.2022 Renowned author, writer, professor and Waanyi Traditional Owner Alexis Wright has written an enlightening opinion piece for the New York Times. In it, Wright demonstrates the urgent need to listen to and collaborate with the Aboriginal community and incorporate traditional fire practices into modern day fire management plans. Wright also highlights the important work of the Gangalidda & Garawa peoples' in leading the way on this issue through the Jigija Indigenous Fire Training Program. 16.01.2022 In a world first handback, traditional ceremonial artefacts are returned to Traditional Owners from the gulf Country in northwestern Queensland by a major UK institution. NITV's Danny Teece-Johnson finds out more.

16.01.2022 Sacred artefacts stolen from Indigenous Australians nearly a century ago have been handed back to their descendants in a ceremony in Manchester, paving the way for the return of tens of thousands of items from institutions across the UK.

15.01.2022 This is, to me and my community, what true practical reconciliation looks like. - Mangubadijarri Yanner

13.01.2022 CLCAC’s Native Title Holders may be aware that the federal Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment’s Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program ...(GBA Program) were pursuing a three stage program of investigations into the potential for shale gas fields in the Gulf region (fracking). CLCAC has maintained a presence with the GBA Program’s stakeholder group to make sure that the views of native title holders were given priority, rejecting any fracking activity in the Gulf region, and drawing attention to the impact that this activity could have on our land and sea country. In a recent update to CLCAC, the GBA Program announced that the third stage of planned investigations would not be taking place. CLCAC welcomes this result for Native Title Holders in the region who made it clear that fracking was not welcome in our pristine region. Congratulations and thank you to all involved! See more

12.01.2022 Twelve culturally sacred artefacts have been returned to the Gangalidda-Garawa people in a special ceremony in Bourketown, Far North Queensland on Wednesday after being stolen by British explorers over a century ago.

11.01.2022 October marks the 20th anniversary of the ‘Crocodile Case’ which made legal history when Murrandoo Yanner a Gangalidda man from the Lower Gulf of Carpentaria Re...gion Queensland was charged with hunting and killing of two crocodiles which he argued was his and all Aboriginal People’s right in this land to be able to hunt and eat their traditional bush tucker. The legal case Yanner vs Eaton went all the way to the High Court of Australia. The win remains a significant precedent in native title case law in Australia along with Mabo and Wik. We also recognize past traditional owner, Mr Herbert Walden also a Gangalidda man who was charged with killing a bush turkey in 1987 Walden vs Hensler. Unfortunately his case was before the Mabo judgement was handed down and he was not able to defend his right under native title.

08.01.2022 The smiles say it all. These artefacts have been off country for over a century. It’s the first ever repatriation from the United Kingdom back to Australia. A historic & emotional moment. The artefacts will return to country during the week of 16th December where they will be used in ceremony once again.
